hi Heidi, congratulations on getting your date. Mine has been an interesting journey so far. I had all of my pre op things done with a surgeon here in DSM. But when they submitted to my insurance company UHC, they stated in order to pay for the surgery, my company required it be done at a center of excellence. So i took all my evals i had completed and saw Dr. Samuels for the first time on 10/9/08. There were a few other tests i needed and completed those as quickly as possible. i Saw the Dr again on 11/6 and everything was finally in order. On 11/10 i was approved and scheduled for Dec 3. The journey began in July and has been an emotional rollercoaster to where i am now.
The liquid diet is uhmm interesting to say the least, but if i can get another 15 or so pounds off before surgery, i will be ecstatic. good luck to you.. i have heard great things about both of the surgeons there, and even though the road was bumpy, i am happy where i have ended up.

I'm a Genesis Medical Hospital person also. I have been through all my test and classes. Now I am waiting for my Surgeon visit on 1-13-08. I also have a tentative surgery date of 1-26-08. Doing the Lap RYN.

Hi to all Iowans having surgery since Thanksgiving and throughout December. I am from Mason City and had my RNY on 9/16/08 at Fort Dodge. I am down 64 lbs. and doing well most days. What a journey it has been and will continue to be. I hope we can all continue to stay in touch and help each other along the way. Ignore my tracker, I'm having trouble updating it.

Zen called it...I'm a lurker. I come back now and again to get regrounded. But to all Iowans, welcome!! (And welcome to those close, but not quite, Iowans!!) Update on me...yet another minor surgery for me. Hoping to someday eat with no pain. Between Mikey's blockage this summer and my adhesion surgery two weeks ago - we keep our doc in car payments!! But, we're both maintaining and well overall. Take care all!!!

Hi there, my name is Eva and I'm from central Iowa. Just started the journey, met with the surgeon last week for the first time so we are just starting to try and get approval etc. I'd love to hear from anyone who has had surgery in Grinnell.

Hi Rose, it's nice to meet you. I think I'm addicted to this site, I can't wait to get on at night. I love reading about everyone, their progress, their downfalls, fears, thoughts etc. I've learned so much. I'm just in the beginning stages, I'm due to have the mental health screen next Monday. Then we'll be awaiting insurance approval.

Found out today my son and his fiance scheduled their upcoming wedding for July 24, 2010. I'm really excited!!

I have a brother who lives in Aurora NE, works for the IAMS plant there. I have good friends in Alexandria MN.

Hope to talk to you again out here.
