Default I'm New and 1-month pre-op

Hi!

My actual name is Ellen, and on December 7th (A date which will live in infamy!, well at least in my own head), I'm going under for a laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.

I've been split open 3 times already for babies and such, so abdominal surgery is an old friend, but this time, I'm a little nervous. I'm older now than when I had children, there are more medical complications (Type II diabetes), and well, any surgery has risks. I want to do all I can to reduce those risks, like walking every day, but in the back of my head I take this rather seriously.

So I just wanted to say, "Hey!", find some kindred spirits, and support anyone that I can in these forums.

It's nice to 'meet' you!

Welcome to T-T Ellen.

The only surgery I had prior to the RNY was 2 C-sections so I know where you're coming from.

It is a scary process but for me, doing nothing about my weight was even scarier.

Hang in there sweetheart and keep reading this forum. We're here to help you through the process.

Hi Ellen and welcome. There is so much wonderful information and support here for both before and after surgery. The people on here are so warm, loving and supportive so weather you have a question or are just having a rough day, here is a great place to be.

I am so excited that you are so close to surgery. What made you make this move? What has been your experience so far?

Hi Corrine!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm very excited to be this far along in the process. I can't tell you how great it is to have a forum full of supporitve people like me! It certainly looks like you are "the-lady-in-the-know". I have read many of your posts. If I need a mentor, I know which direction to head!

Thanks again for the nice reply.

Hi Linda!

My health. That's the short answer for why I decided to make this move. It's funny, when I went to my group information meeting, I thought I was the only one who had debated this for years. Yeah! Was I ever wrong. Many people have thought long and hard about doing this, and that surprised me. I have Type II and everything that goes with it (high blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.). I recently read an article that said there was an 85% cure rate for Type II, now that's motivation!

I can't honestly say that I'm overly thrilled with the Bariatic Surgeon's office in my area, but I'm a stong soul, and I'll be fine.

So how about you? Do tell!

Ellen
