Newbie here - ThinnerTimes - Gastric Bypass Forum, Lap Band Forum, and Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Forum

Hello All,

Just wanted to introduce myself as I am new here.

This WHOLE experience is sooo new to me, I originally went to a seminar in early September just for some information, etc. Next I know someone is calling me and telling me what all I need in order to get 1 of the 2 procedures done. Anyway, to make this a very short story - the surgery scheduler is supposed to be calling me tomorrow to get the next steps in motion and I should be having surgery sometime in Dec.

I havent ever been on a 'thread' site and so, I dont really know what I am doing yet, but it was great that I found this place because I have read alot of what other ppl wrote. The whole reason for researching more stuff about the surgeries is because I was (and ALITTLE still am) EXTREMELY Nervous and overall scared to have the surgery. Did anyone else feel like this?? After seeing this site I feel alot better but you know- you never know, right?
Any information, comments, suggestions are welcome!

Welcome!! You have found a truly wonderful forum to share your journey with! There are so many helpful people full of experience who are always willing to answer questions!

As for the being nervous thing, I understand, I was extremely nervous to even admit that this is what I wanted to do, not only was I afraid of the surgery its self but I was afraid of being judged for my choice, but finding this site was a god send. It reassured me that the benefits outweigh the risks in most cases. And after seeing all the wonderful results that people on this forum had been experiencing it changed my mind. I knew that is was exactly what I wanted!! And now 4 months out and 85lbs down I am happier than ever!! I hope you have a wonderful journey as well! Good luck!!!!!!

I'll be another December surgery, right there with you. The surgery isn't scaring me as much as the after-surgery part.

Do you have to meet with a nutritionist prior to surgery?

hey TxHunni,
I did see a nutritionist --- however, when I seen her I was planning on the lap band, but -- through things I have heard and having that thing in me -- I think I have decided to go with the Gastric. So, when I went to see the nutritionist- she emphasized alot on the lap band post op eating/drinking habits... have you?
