Smile Hello from Wusang

I guess I should of done this post first as I have already been posting around the board. My handle is Wusang, my real name is Tom. I am not Chinese as my handle might lead you to think. I am Canadian, born in Canada and lived in Ontario all my life.

I work in law enforcement (thus my quick witty but sick sense of humor) up here in Canada and am about 5 years to retirement (i'll be making that now). I am once divorced and twice married and happy with my Cuban wife of 11 years.

I am also the lucky recipient of Gastric Byass Surgery done at the Highland Hospital in Rochester. Highland is a University teaching Bariatric Centre. I cannot say enough good about the people who work there and how I was treated throughout my stay with them. Exellence in patient care barely describes what I was priviledged to enjoy. Thank you Highland and most particularly Dr. O'Malley Assistant Professor at this center.

I have fought the battle of the buldge all my life and as everyone lost each battle. This surgery for me is a win. I have never felt so good in my life as I do today. The quality of my life has swung around completely. I just recently cleaned out my entire clothing of all XL clothing regardless giving it to charity. There must of been over 1500 dollars in clothing went out the door. It has all been replaced with Large and Medium.

Post operatively I have had absolutely no pain nor complications (4 months out so far). I started at 322 my heaviest and am now in the high 220's. My goal is 174 <-> 200 depending where I feel comfortable. Doctor seems to think 160 is not an unrealistic expectation. When he told me that he left me speechless for the first time in a long time that I could remember. Haven't been 160 since like Grade 8!

I am certainly enjoying the weight loss and with each pound my co-morbidities are slowly disappearing such as Diabetes Type II, high blood pressure, joint and back pains as well as sleep apena. I survived a heart attack in 2002 on the job on a night shift. So I am sure my heart is also feeling a lot better as well for the weight loss and cardiovascular workouts it is getting in once again.

I love my life here on earth and hope to be around as long as possible to enjoy it before passing on. My hobbies are boating, single engine aircrafts, fly fishing, baseball and computers. I speak English, Spanish and Spanglish! Si hable espanol.

Yeah enough about me already. I love this site and the excellent resources it provides its members.

God bless us all to those who believe in God. For me God takes care of those who take care of themselves and that is exactly what we are all doing here. Have a nice day.

Tom, I too had my surgery at Highland by Dr. O'Malley. He was wonderful and the hospital staff was AMAZING!!! I have lost fifty pounds. When I went to Rochester last Wednesday, Dawn said that I was doing great!! I had my surgery 11 weeks ago. I have had no complications whatsoever.

God is so AMAZING!!! I can do all things in Christ, who strenthens me!!

If there is one thing that I have learned from this surgery, it is that I no longer live to eat. I eat to live.
