Hi Molly, I am so sorry to hear what happened, I do wonder however if there is not some good that will come from it. I think things sometimes happen for a reason even if we don't understand it at the time. I wish you the very best as the 9th rolls around. Diann

Ms. Molly,

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!!! I agree with the person who said that it tells you what kind of Dr. you have. One who puts her patients first. I also like that she took the time HERSELF to come and talk to you. I think your one lucky gal to be with this Dr.

Did you have to do a liquid diet? If so for how many days before? Because if it was me.... we would be having a good dinner tonight!!! lol. But so true, I'm all about the food. Thats why I'm here right.

Good luck!!

Molly,
I feel your pain even though I personally had no anxiety whatsoever about my surgery. Once you make up your mind, you are ready to go! I got poison ivy/oak the week before and it spread over my left arm, my lower stomach, my breasts and my left thigh. My friends told me I would not be able to have surgery, but I scrubbed and wrapped and arrived at the hospital wrapped like a mummy and they put the IV in on my unaffected right hand and off I went!
I have had back surgery and gallbladder surgery so I pretty much knew what I was going to experience. However, I will tell you that this surgery is as much mental as it is physical.
First of all we elect to do this and second of all, we are making such a drastic life change that it flips over everything we know and do on any given day.
I am only three weeks out and I can tell you the discomfort of the surgery is secondary to the mental game of not being able to reach for a cup of coffee every morning with a bowl of grapenuts cereal with sugar or anything else for that matter, not to mention the discomfort my body experiences with everything new I introduce to it.
The surgery is clearly just a blip on the screen as opposed to the long journey ahead.
The good news is that you are here and will get more information and support here than you will probably be able to find out in the "real" world, so spend your extra time reading and re-stocking your house for post op fare and vitamins.
I am lucky to live alone so I was able to empty my entire pantry and replace it with Gastric Bypass friendly items only. The first two weeks, I kept a shelf for my mother while she stayed with me and visited. Figuring I was on a clear fluid diet, she could have anything but as soon as I hit puree, I did not want to be tempted.

Default Thank you

Thank you everyone for your replies. I agree with you all that this definitely says something about my surgeon. I was very disappointed at the time, and honestly more concerned about how I was going to rework the child care situation. I was very afraid that I was not going to be able to get coverage and so on.

The thought of going through all of the cleaning, laundry, packing the children all over again at the moment was more than overwhelming. I had also cooked and froze ten meals for my family this past Sunday. So I have absolutely no food in my refrigerator. To think about how I was going to have to do this all over again. I know this all my sound like silly things to be worried about, but I do everything for my family. I also have to admit I am not really a "go with the flow" kind of person and this was a huge u-turn for me, and it required a little time for it to set in. This morning I feel much better, and have greater perspective about the whole ordeal.

I have waited this long and so what’s another week. I know on Monday my surgeon will be able to operate unflustered and not distracted, and it will ultimately be in my best interests.

Thank you again for all of the encouragement.

I completely understand!! 3 days before my long awaited surgery I started to feel a little flu like. No, this couldn't be! I have waited too long, and like you I have an 18 month to think about only one so I can only imagine what it was like with 2. My mom had to cancel flights etc...Silly me thought for sure it would go away after all I had 3 days until surgery. Well when it came down to less then 24 hours until the time and a fever of 102 I figured I better call. Not only was my surgery postponed for over a month it turned out the doctor I had researched nightly, trusted and actually grown to love was leaving the practice and I was being handed over to a new surgeon whom I had never laid eyes on. Holy Motown this was huge! Through it all everything could not have turned out more prefect. It was worth the wait and my doc was incredible. So yes, I agree with everyone it does happen for a reason everything does. Good luck and you will be in my thoughts next week. It will be here before you know it!

My surgery was postponed for 3 weeks because of one of my surgeons being sick and staying home that day. It gave me time to change my mind from RNY to the sleeve. I couldn't be happier. Everything really does happen for a reason, even when it feels devestating and you don't think it's fair! =)

Welcome

I am sorry for the disappointment for you. I am one week pre-op until surgery and the anxiety of surgery is already starting for me. I swear I eat, sleep, think, talk about this surgery 24-7. SO I can only imagine the let down you must be feeling. Good Luck with your surgery and being the woman and mommy want to be
