Talking I Did It!! Does anyone have any advice for a newbie?

Hi everyone,

Well I finally did it. I had my gastric bypass on Thursday (10/29/09). I am so glad to have that part over with and back home on Friday (10/30/09).

Does anyone know of a protein shake that taste GOOD? I am eating mostly sf popsicles and sf jello. I've tried the broth but it is awful. What are some of the other things that any of you ate while still on the clear liquid diet?

Congratulations on your surgery!

Everyone has different tastes as far as protein shakes go. I like Chike a lot. You can get samples at Chike Nutrition - Best Tasting Meal Replacement Shake. Guaranteed. Pour, Shake, Drink & Go!. Get samples first to see if you like. Don't buy a big tub of anything until you've tried it.

You can get samples of lots of different brands at Vitalady.com - Protein Supplements, Vitamins & Minerals, and Safe Snacks!.

If you're on clear liquids right now, you might want to visit GNC and try some Isopure. They are a clear protein drink that comes in fruity flavors already mixed up in a bottle.

Hi Huzz - I'm down the road from you about an hour. Gratz on your surgery. I'm so worried about waking up from anesthesia and thinking "oh no, what have I done"?

I'm having mine at the end of December, but I'll be reading about your progress.

Hey there-
Congrats on your surgery. I had mine on the 27th.

The protein shake I'm able to get down right now is EAS Advantedge, which isn't as high in protein as I'd like, but it's working for me right now. I got the premixed drinks at walmart for $5 for 4.

I know what you feel like. I had that feeling up until they gave me something to relax me. I just kept telling myself that I didn't want to be unhealthy for the rest of my life. When I woke up, the only thing I could remember was my left side hurting a little and they quickly gave me something for it. I was up and walking that afternoon. Everyone's experience is different. I know it's hard not to worry, but believe me you will be glad that you did it. Who is your surgeon?

If there is one thing that I have learned from this surgery, it is that I no longer live to eat. I eat to live.

Congratulations on your surgery as well! I plan to go on a protein shake shopping trip with my sister as soon as I can and I will defintely check this one out. My son did bring me a powder protein mix and it has 26 grams for one scoop and 52 for 2 scoops. It's called Super Advanced Whey Protein by Body Fortress in the cookies and cream flavor. It doesn't taste that bad but I still havent checked it out with my doctor which I am trying to do today.
