Default General ? for all WLS patients

What surgery do you think you have the least likely chance of getting extra skin is? Just curious b/c I can't make up my mind on which surgery I am going to get. I know exercise is a factor.

Ummm........ I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter which type of surgery you go with...it depends on how you carried your weight and your age and if you get off your ass and move around. I could be wrong, though.

I would think that with the gastric bypass RNY because I've been told you lose weight faster with it rather than the band but with my sit., I had lost 62 lbs. before surgery and it seems as if some lapband patients are losing a lot faster than me. Anyway, good luck with whatever you may choose.

I wonder if there's a way to find out if I will have a lot of extra skin. I know I wont really know until it happens. Just one of the many things I am thinking about. lol

Your weight, how it is distributed, and your elasticity plays a big part in "extra skin". I was more worried about my health and my horrible knees than my saggy arms and lil sharpei thighs

Your height and starting weight vs ending weight, age, elasticity & genetics all play a part in how saggy your skin will be.

Your choice of surgery plays no factor in it at all.

I hope that when I lose all the weight that I am hoping for that the skin does tense up a bit in my belly (home of most of my excess weight). If it does not I have 2 choices, tummy tuck or use the excess skin for a beach umbrella in the summer! I hope it does not sag too much and I do not have to worry about it.

I am just crossing 1 bridge at a time.

I hear ya.... that's not what I'm worried about atm though. All I want is to be a normal SAFE weight so I won't have to worry about falling over from exhaustion from dragging my extra lbs around everywhere I go!

I know I will probably have extra skin on my stomach. I already have some from when I had my son. I really don't want to get it anywhere else but it really is the least of my worries. I am just trying to find all/every bit of info I can. It's a big decision.

The type of surgery you have will not affect how much loose skin you have. Anytime you lose a lot of weight, you will probably have loose skin, even if you just lose the weight by dieting and don't have surgery at all. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell ahead of time just how much loose skin you will have.
