Unhappy 3 weeks post op gastric bypass, need advice.

Hello everyone. I had my gastric bypass 3 weeks and 2 days ago. Everything seemed fine until 2 weeks post op and then my stomach acid started acting up like crazy, also my stomach's always making this growling noise. I've also started experiencing nausea after I eat. Not all foods cause it, its quite random. On top of that I get a rush of saliva into my mouth with the sensation I'm going to vomit. I have to hover over the toilet and spit this out because if i try and swallow it down I feel even worse. I haven't actually been sick yet, but its a really unpleasant sensation. I were wondering if anybody else has had this problem and how long its likely to go on for.

Hi, I had my op in July 2008 in Brugge (Dr Bruno Dillemans - what a dish!) and experienced the same problems.

I have found that I need to take one Omeprazol tablet every morning before I eat or drink anything, this is an antacid pill and it is like my wonder tablet!

If I miss one then I have real problems eating. I feel uncomfortable after a couple of mouthfuls and lately I find I get really bad pain in my lower abdomen. My stomach is always growling. Basically it just the stomach acid needing to calm down.

I strongly recommend visiting your GP and seeing if he recommends Omeprazol. My GP is very happy for me to have this on repeat prescription.

Good luck

I am a few weeks further along than you are and I took omeprazol to help with this issue. Actually my surgeon started me on it in the hospital.

My surgeon gave me lansoprazole and they've made no difference what so ever. Maybe the one's you've suggested will. I will have to ring my doctors surgery tomorrow and try to get in. I will have to let you know how I get on. x

I was required to take pepcid ac in the morning before anything else until 6 months along but I haven't had any problems and I still take it.....The Dr didn't have a problem with me still taking it...
alot of people have that growling noise I do from time to time....What are you eating at 3 weeks out maybe something you should have been ????
Try liquids for a few days and see what happens also...

The loud stomach noises are totally normal. Over the months, mine has gotten quieter. But occasionally it still speaks up!

Some people have more trouble than others tolerating different foods after surgery. Try to pay attention to what you eat when you have problems and you may be able to narrow it down and see what things you can handle and what things you can't. But there are some things that go down fine one day and cause problems the next. It's a lot of trial and error, unfortunately. It usually does get better as time goes on, but how long can be different for different people.

I just notice this second thread under the same title, so I'm bumping it up, too.

It's been a week since you're last post... how are you doing?
