Talking Anticipating the Beginning!

So, I've made the decision that I want to have the surgery. I called the doctor's office on Thursday and was told that I'd have to fill out a packet of information before I meet with the surgeon. I'm anxiously waiting for this packet of information to come so I can schedule my appointment.

I'm extermely nervous about the entire situation. I've read all of BCBS requirements and I do meet them. I keep thinking, well what if I don't get approved. How long is the process going to take? I'm nervous but yet excited and I hope that is something that I can have done. Any advice on steps that I should take during the very beginning of the process?

Does BCBS require you to do a six month supervised diet? Many insurance companies do. If so, that will make the process take longer, of course. I did not have to do a diet, but it still took me about four months from my first appointment with the surgery. You will have lots of appointments to go to and probably at least one class at your surgeon's office.

While you're going through the process, you can do all the reading and learning about the surgery that you can. The more you know, the better.

You can also start making some changes now that you'll need to make after surgery. Things like making sure you eat at least 60 grams of protein a day and drinking 64 ounces of fluid and day and not eating with meals and eating small bites and chewing really, really good... If you start developing those habits now, you'll have any easier time after surgery.

Welcome to Thinner Times, krbunch.

I like to recommend "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies", it was great and eye-opening for me. It helped me formulate questions to ask the professionals and gave me plenty of hope.

I second this book! i still refer back to it. Plus helps the time pass while waiting

Like kelly said check with your plan to see if they require the 6 months diet, that will give you a better idea on what kind of time frame. My BCBS plan didnt BUT all are different.

Good luck to you
