I wish for you THAT great day at 6 Flags you've been looking forward ~ and I know it's coming very, very soon.

Well, I started the liquid diet last Friday. Friday and Saturday were very easy to get through, however, Sunday was a nightmare. I've had headaches off and on since Friday evening. Sunday, I did a lot of chores around the house, wasn't on a schedule for eating, and by the time the evening hit, I was tired and very hungry. I've had nothing but juice, water, protein shakes, jello and soup. Sunday evening I could have chewed the rubber off a wheel I was so hungry. Less than 2 weeks to go, lots of doctor visits left. Any suggestions on how do deal with the hunger without cheating?
Today I am back on a schedule, so I feel just a tiny bit hungry. The days are passing so quickly, I know my surgery will be he in no time.
Just wanted to drop in and say hello.
Casey

Casey, sugar free popsicles helped me a lot to get through the liquid diet. Although I will admit I only had to do five days, not two weeks. And I'm glad of it. Other than that, I just tried to stay really busy and not think about it.

The third and forth day and the last day were my WORST!!!! It got so bad for me on the 3-4 days that I actually took a huge bite of burger, chewed the hell out of it...and spit it out! I just had to chew!! I did the same the week after my surgery.. it was a craving for flavor and the need to chew.. so I have found myself doing that 4-6 times actually... and it worked...
I ate egg drop soup too.. it seemed to be a little thicker than just broth and was so much more satisfying.. the little man at the chinese place knew me well! I did half egg drop and half wonton broth.. and drank LOTS AND LOTS!

Hi Casey, I just lmao after reading your quote under your signature. That is so funny! I think you've gotten some really good ideas for dealing with the hunger, and remember your are doing the liquid diet to shrink your liver and prepare your system for the surgery. I also did 2 weeks of Optifast and eventually got used to it - at least I tried to tell myself that!!! As you said, the days pass quickly and before you know it your date will be here and you'll be totally ready for the next part of your healthy journey. Keep us in the loop!

Ok, I've been sticking to the liquid diet, however, last night I had 10 crackers with my soup. I made a huge mistake of getting tomato soup for all of my soup meals, and last night I needed a change. Did I make a major faux pas on my diet? I just read about the lady who's liver cracked during surgery and I definately do not want to experience that.
I need to get more variety of soups in my diet, and I have a case of tomato soup to get through, lol.
Any suggestions on making the remaining tomato soups more palatable?
Thank you guys, you are wonderful.
Casey

Hey Casey-- Liver Cracked Lady here.. lol..
IMO, I'd get something to add some variety to your meals for pre-op. Sticking to one flavor is not normal for us humans and it makes things doubly difficult when you don't need to do that to yourself.
I don't think you've caused serious harm to your pre-op diet.. my stupidity included high fats and high carbs and a lot of them.. so I wouldn't worry too much.
Just do try to stick closely to your prescribed diet going forward and see if you can find something suitable to alternate from the tomato soup.

Mistymee,
Your story scared the bejeezus out of me when I read it this morning. So with that I am scared straight to stick on my diet, lol. I thought I could handle two weeks of tomato soup, (buzz) wrong answer, and it has only been since this past Friday I've been on the diet. Today seems like the easiest of the days, so far. No hunger pains, no headache. Feeling pretty good actually. One bonus I have experienced since starting this diet is my blood suger is staying in the normal level without meds and I am not feeling the sugar roller coaster of ups and downs.
I'm heading off the the supermarket after work to find alternatives to the tomato soup.
I'm going to, probably for ever, remember your story.... hope you have no side effects from the incident and bless you.
Casey

I agree with Kelly, I don't think you've done any serious damage to your diet by having the crakers. Keep the tomatoe soup because it will come in handy after your surgery. Then you can sprinkle in some cheddar cheese, goldfish crackers or add a little pastina. For now though, try to alternate with chicken or beef boullion. I was allowed to have very few bits of vegetables with the Optifast - but decided not to. Its always the first few days that are the most difficult and you've made it past them. Keep up the good work and shrink down your liver to make the surgery easier and your recuperation quicker.
