New England Girl in South Florida
Hey All!
Figured I'd do the whole 'introduction', I'm looking forward to using this site often!
- I'm 20 years old and entering my Junior year in college.
- I have always been overweight, it's really in my genes
- 8, I was told I was fat and needed to lost 25 pounds
- 11, I went on Weight Watchers for 9 months
- 12-13, I went on Jenny Craig for a year and 3 months
- 14, I attended an obesity clinic every Thursday for 6 months(visiting with nutritionist, doctors, physcologist)
- 15, I was told to look into lapband surgery
- 16, Diagnosed with 3 bulging and 2 slip discs, rolling of all my bones, and Degenerative Disc Disease all from genes as well as being a competitive dancer from the age of two while carrying my weight.
- 16, Met with another nutritionist
- 15-17, Took Medaformin, Trim Spa, Hydrox Cut, Slim Quik,Slim Fast, and many others
- I have been thinking about WLS for five years now.
-Six months Ago I convinced myself that I didn't want this surgery.
- Because I felt as though I would be missing out on my college years.
- I'm a retard. I'm missing out on sooo much more stuff now.
- Tuesday at 9:45 is my first primary appt. it should be easy
- I will be asking her opinion and obvi. permission for the surgery (per ins.)
- And requesting my medical records so I have the proof of the above mentioned.
- THE BEST PART?
- I'm getting the surgery and everything done in Florida with only my Mom's best friend and second family to help.
- I'm confident in their support and they will be involved with the process' the whole way through.
That's me.. I haven't read anyone elses but that's what I felt like getting off my chest. I have a personal blog now-- which you can view through my homepage and wil be starting a WLS blog depending upon my Tuesday appointment I don't want to get to ahead of myself.

Welcome to Thinner Times, Samantha.
Lot's of us retards here, too, who delayed, and delayed, and delayed our decisions. I wish I had the surgery sooner, when I actually HAD medical insurance that would have covered it.
Congratulations on making the journey. The rest of your life is waiting.

Welcome Samantha...I'm sure you'll find a lot of help here while you start your journey toward better health. There are a lot of well-informed and caring people here.
I can relate to part of your story in that I too have serious spinal issues. The best thing I did for my body was permanently losing weight via WLS. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Obviously a healthy weight won't cure your spine, but it WILL help you manage your pain. The difference is amazing.

Hey Sam...
Great story, and its a lot like many of us here....loose 25, gain 50....
Hopefully the weight loss will help the back problems, Phoenix is a mess, (back issue wise!!) and I try to imagine her with an extra 150 dragging around, and I couldnt imagine the pain......
Its so good to see you having this at your age, its a blessing to be able enjoy the great years you have ahead of you, this is a decision you will not regret, believe me, there are a ton of us here at a slightly more advanced age than you wishing we could have done this years and years ago.
Make us proud kid...make us proud!!!!
