Default new and nervous

i am new to this site. i have been in post op for 13 days now and am scared out of my mind in the decision i made to help change my life. anything and everything i learned from seminar and the nutritionist has gone out the window. i am here to ask and to learn and later on maybe even answer questions. i know the nutritionist told me probably most of these but......GONE dont remember anything. thats how freaked out i became afer surgery....

here are my questions:

1. what are the best proteins?
2. how much of carbs, proteins, cal., sodium (really confused about that one), fats (trans/sat), cholestoral, etc. should i have PER day?
3. i dont feel hungry but when i eat i dont feel fool.. what up with that?
4. i dont drink more that 2 to 2 1/2 9oz. bottles of water a day. is that ok enough?

thats all i can really think of right now i am sure i will ask more later on...
sorry i rambled in my introduction just nervous....

thank you glad to be here and being a member in this forum....

Hi, Cherry. Welcome to TT. You'll find lots of great info and support here.

If you're going to do protein drinks (and most of us do, at least in the beginning), look for those containing whey or soy isolate protein. Avoid supplements containing collagen protein. We absorb the whey and soy isolate much better.

We need at least 60 grams of protein a day. Some doctors and dieticians recommend a little more than that. When I was a couple weeks post-op, I got maybe 600 to 800 calories a day. You probably won't be able to eat too many calories. Stay away from simple carbs, like bread and potatoes and pasta. Well, a little won't hurt you, but you should focus mainly on protein.

It's normal not to feel hungry this early out. And you don't have a strong full feeling because you're not eating solid food yet. Or if you are, it's all mushy food. You'll probably start feeling full more once you start eating stuff with texture.

You're not drinking nearly enough water. You need to be getting at least 64 ounces a day. Getting enough water is really important. Actually, it's not just water, it's any caffeine-free liquids. So your protein drinks count, too.

Kelly

Well thats the other thing....write it down...everything you put in your mouth, food or water (felt I better clarify that with this group)....keep a journal in the begining...you are just writing your protien, but then the others...make columns for each...READ your labels...don't be fooled by those 0 calorie drinks or water they could contain lots of sodium...

The journaling will help you alot should you have issues or food not sit right...LISTEN to your body...it will tell you almost right away if something is not going to work...

I know the water (fluids) in general is hard, but start slow...I loved my water...now I have to flavor it (crystal light or 0 cal green tea flavoring) but don't over do them as some people say they cause dental decay...go figure...AND remember no drinking 30 min before or after your meals...

Its a lot, but you will get the hang of it...
