And isn't it funny how we remember not only the day of our last cigarette but the exact moment! I think I knew I was finally over the hump when one day someone asked me how long it's been and I had to think for a minute before responding. The first couple months we can almost quote in hours and/or minutes how long it's been, if only because of being so proud of ourselves (with good reason)!

lmao yep ... I have gotten to that point too .. I have to think just how long it's been when someone asks me

Welcome. You can quit smoking. I was a pack a day smoker then started having some problems with my lung. I had to quit and I knew when I did my weight was going to shoot up, which it did. I quit 11/30/07, the day before my twins' 19th birthday. Chantix worked for me, but it has some side effects.

Once I quit, I knew I had to do something about my weight, so I looked into surgery. I had RNY on 11/4/08 and have lost 91 pounds. It was so worth it. I have my life back. I feel like a normal person again. I used to think it was hopeless. I thought I'd never be able to give up my vices (smoking and overeating). But I did it and I'll never be that way again. You can do it too.

Welcome to Thinner Time, Liz.

On July 3, 1994, I went to bed a smoker and woke up a non-smoker. No patches or help other than me and my husband, who quit the same day, too. After 18 years of smoking, elevating to 2-3 packs a day, I've been smoke free ever since.

Focus on the prize. YOU KNOW that WLS surgery will help you lose weight if that's your prize, but you have to do certain things to get there. If the ultimate prize is also your health, where WLS will certainly help, quitting smoking will by far more beneficial. Having a focus on WLS can help the habit go away.

My focus was I was pregnant. My prize was my bouncing baby boy.

Day 366: 1 Year - 146 lbs down
Day 396: One-derland - 153 lbs gone forever! (my pic progression)

Starting BMI: 60.4 / Current BMI: 33.6

Nearly 16 TEN pound bowling balls down... OMG, let me pinch myself!

I don't want to know how much I have left to lose -- I find it encouraging to see how far I've come!
