I've been reading that not everyone dumps, and I am okay with that. My thought process is like yours. I would rather know the possibility is there, and not have to experience it.
I think that just knowing that it could happen is enough to scare me into not attempting it.
This will be my best shot at weight loss in many years, so I don't want to screw it up. I also realize that bypass is more of a tool than the "miracle" that so many of us have wanted for years. I know that I will have to make healthy choices, and exercise. I also know that there is a psychological battle that will play out after surgery.
I can win it, but I'm sure there will be some difficulty along the way. Nothing greatly gained comes without some struggle.
It will be a journey, and one that me and my family are greatly excited and nervous for.
I've been on here for about two hours reading post after post about everything I could imagine. There is so much knowledge and experience here, that I feel confident that a lot of my questions will be answered here without even asking.

I started out my journey at 352, 344 surgery date. 14 months later I'm at 198 - yes, it's an awesome place to be. In my heart of hearts, I KNOW that's what you want. To be sure, the band will not give you those results from your starting weight class.
So, if you're thinking is anything at all like mine was - the journey has been long and arduous, mere dieting was excruciating and depressing, you want the surgery to happen, you want to be uplifted, and you want the weight off NOW.
Yes, I know the RNY is not a miracle, and the weight won't drop off NOW... but the RNY is the best chance to lose 100 pounds the 1st 6 months. Imagine weighting 269 six to eight months post-op
(((( imagine)))) I'm 50... imagine what you can do at age 28. Sweetie, dare to imagine all things positive!
... and be excited!

Day 188: Century Club - 100 lbs down
Day 366: 1 Year - 146 lbs down
Day 396: One-derland - 153 lbs gone forever! (my pic progression)
Starting BMI: 60.4 / Current BMI: 33.6
Nearly 16 TEN pound bowling balls down... OMG, let me pinch myself!
I don't want to know how much I have left to lose -- I find it encouraging to see how far I've come!

Mmmm, Claire, Brenham??!!??
You must have the willpower of a Goddess to live in "Blue Bell Central," lol. I'd be dumping at least once a month if I lived there! :P

Trying so hard to get back on track, face that I can't do it alone, stop beating myself up for my failings... UPDATE: Well, after the 7 lb. drop last week, this week I didn't lose *anything*. Didn't gain, but it's discouraging.

<sigh> yes, Blue Bell was tough to give up, but I did give it up. The saying "Thin feels better than food tastes" seems to apply!!
Funny thing is, it's in my freezer for my husband to enjoy. I don't even see it there.

Arsonal, welcome...see you have them on the ice cream thought train...honestly...on dumping...it really is up to the individual. what one person can't handle the other can...but it is a lifestyle change...(boy did I learn tht this weekend). I grazed on Baked Lays all day on the 4th. Now I had no major ill affects...that is if you don't count the intestal gas I kept passing....
just remember....weight did not come on over night...and over night it will not come off...but it does....

My own mind-set is that EVERYTHING that I know is inappropriate for me to eat WILL make me sick/dump. That causes me to think of those things (like Blue Bell Ice Cream, for example) as though it had gasoline spilled all over it.
It's all a head game at the stage where I am. I know I can eat anything, but i pretend I can't.
