Lapband quickie- A band inserted around the top of the stomach to create your pouch. It is adjusted over time to allow more or less food to pass.
Done laproscopically, you will have a port to allow for adjustments.
Limits amounts of foods, but not necessarily what you eat. Thats a downside as you have to basically still be on a diet per say. You have to have discipline. noted as a safer choice since there is no rerouting of the stomach or intestines.
RNY Roux en Y Gastric bypass.- done either laproscopically or open incision.
This surgery limits the amounts of foods and types of foods by creating a new pouch and stapling it from the old. (this depends on the surgeon on actual procedure). Your intestines are re routed to allow food to pass from your new pouch as well as your old stomach.
This food limits drastically what you can eat. Recovery is harder because your diet and activity is limited more by internal healing as well as external. You will have to limit fats and sugars as you will experience "dumping syndrome" if you over consume these types of foods or beverages. I have not had this happen, but its not a pretty picture as your body instantly pushes the food out no matter how it gets there. Major sickness like sweating and its not pleasent.
Open surgeries have alot more complications possible because of hernias and so on.
Hope this helps!
