Cool Scheduled

Hi,
I finally got scheduled for my surgery! Could have had it on March 3rd, however, it worked better for my job to have it the end of march. So its march 31st. Scared Sh#*less. Need to lose 15lbs before surgery . Any suggestions for a fast food addict?

Congrats on your date!! Its a great accomplishment!

15 lbs is alot especially for a fast food addict. First thing is you gotta cut it out. Post op you wont be back there again, so you may as well start cutting it out now. If you are wanting that burger or chicken sandwich, try one of the boca burgers or morning star with a whole wheat bun. I love them pre op, but i havent tried it post op yet. Want fries, cut them and put them in the oven after spraying with pam and salt. Its just cutting calories and increasing exercise. If you are limited exercise wise you have to cut the calories. But you cant do this on a fast food diet, even the salads with dressings are bad overall.

Keep a journal... it will give you a true look at your caloric intake. Nut info for all fast foods are on the web so look them up. If you are craving Taco Bell, fine, go out, find something low fat/calorie and high protein. NO NACHOS!! LOL

Good luck!!

First of all welcome to the forum and congrats on receiving your date!

Heather has given you wonderful advice so not much I can add to it. Take this time to start putting into practice how you will be eating further out postop. For me, at 3 years out these are the guidelines that I follow:

Calories: 1000-1200
Protein: 60-80 grams
Fat: <40 grams

You will want to be eating high protein, low fat and low carb foods. If you are eating carbs make them complex carbs. Get rid of the "white" stuff in the house; rice, bread, flour.

The earlier you start eating healthier the better off you will be after surgery. It takes time to change habits so embrace this time to work on change. Also, keep in mind the more weight you can drop before surgery the safer surgery will be for you.

Good luck on your journey and welcome.
