Default Hello, I'm new here... I had gastric 5 years ago. Dieting questions..

Good morning!

I had the gastric bypass around 5 years ago. Started at 267, lost 100, then lost another 30 lbs on low carb diet, but then gained it back within 2 years. I am at 170 again now and I'm wondering. What diets work for any of you? Is low carb the only one that will work?

Please help

Autumn

Autumn,

It's about intake and output - not just carbs. Although having said that, reducing/eliminating your bad carbs is a good start.

Based on your sex, height, weight, age and activity level, this site will give you an indication of your daily calorie needs - it's not exact but it's a good place to start: Adult Energy Needs and BMI Calculator

It's important that you start recording everything you eat and drink. I use fitday.com but there are others like daily plate, sparkspeople etc.

To lose weight, you need to reduce your calorie intake. For example, if you cut back your calories by around 500 a day, you will lose around 1lb per week. But you need to kick up your exercise at the same time.

Do you have an example diet that would work for me?

I am 29
173 lbs
5'1"

I would like to get to 125. I have a 30th bday party on May 2nd. I'm hoping to lose maybe 20 by then?

Not unless you're into tofu and beans! lol

You just need to get back to basics.

Take a look at Beth's post - the "6 month meal plan.doc" Surgeon's Updated Menu Plans

IMO, low carb'ing is the easiest way to loose weight post-op, but not the only way.

I'm 3+ years post-op. If/when I notice that my weight is creeping up, watching my "bad" carbs has done the trick.
