Post UK newbie

Hey all,

Well the decision is made at last!!!! I am going to have the gastric bypass. I would welcome all your stories good and bad.

It has taken me from November 2008 till now to made the biggest decision of my life. I go to see my diabetic consultant in May and I am going to tell him to start the ball rolling on the WLS for me. So I can start living my life

Default Welcome

Hi jojo and welcome from a frosty Shropshire I had a RNY last December and all is well, like you it was a big decision but i don't regret it for one minute as sassy says read up proir to your op and go in knowing what's what and asking the right questions of your consultant.

Here's to losing Mark.

I am in UK too - my GP applied for funding for Gastric by pass in August 08, Granted in November 08. Yippee - unfortunately i'm now stuck waiting as the waiting list in my area is 6-7 months to see consultant then if he agrees another 6-7 months till the surgery!! Like you I feel like I am waiting for life to begin... but everyone in here is full of support and good ideas how to prepare etc so I hope you find all the info you need. Good luck and keep us posted! x x

Well they say life begins at 40 so by then we will be in control and at peace. Im doing slimming world while I wait, its something else to focus on. I am not putting pressure on myself, I have to do something or I will just keep gaining!! My goal is not to get to target but to get into healthy mind set & habits, end my relationship with food slowly, and hopefully loose some weight so the surgery is less risky. This time I know there will be help in the form of surgery so I dont feel whats the point in trying, I'm just going to put it all back on again!

Stick with it girls
I know The waiting part is defo The worst part
Before you know it ... It will be here
Just read up on Pre op , The surgery , post op and nutrition ..
Educate yourselves .. forewarned is forearmed ..
There wasnt much I didnt know about the band before my surgery ..
I googled , youtubed , TT'd ... U name it ... bought books , mags and spoke to some very knowledgable people ...

Keep focused and positive there is light at the end of your tunnels
Best wishes

Sara xx

I did lots of researching and soul searching but I think the best 'real' insight I have had on the things you dont read in the medial stuff and the emotional effects is everyones stories in here and their experienced direction to info they found usefull. Thank you! x
