Default Is it the right thing

Currently 50yr old. 355 lbs with diebeties and high blood pressure.

Former weight lifter that added weight lifting for years. When I stopped lifting at age 43 due to aches in shoulders I was 320lbs. Im currenty a serious archer that shoots in the pro class. Just not 100% sure Im doing the right thing but my body telling me its not going to be good if I dont do this. I hit the gym hard in arobics for two years. Lost about 35lbs and gained it back. I dont think I can get 100lbs off any other way.

Have my first seminar meeting in August with Surgical Associates in Tulsa, Ok.

How do you know its the right thing. So many different opionions. I have talked with many who have had the operation with great success.

I ordered on QVC today nutrisystem a great deal, till
I can do surgery.
I wondered about Lindora too.

Well I sure want to be healthy and on the
losers bench too. I am so ready to do

I am sure for everyone it is different. Like everyone else, I have battled being overweight since I was 20. I have talked to people about the surgery and I have seen their success, but always felt there is no way I could reroute my insides. I started doing research on the lap band and after reading for months, I found that GBS would be best for me. For me, I got to a point where I was tired of not being able to as much as everyone else, my joints hurting everytime I get up, and I am hoping to throw away my high blood pressure meds after the surgery. I have tried diet after diet, year after year, but in the end I gained it back. My body told me it was time to do something - I just had to decide what was the best thing for me to do. I am choosing Lap RNY.
Good luck with your decision and your journey to a new you!

Default Blood pressure

Last month the blood pressure was so high the doctor would not allow me to leave his office untell he got it down. 210/113. Currently staying around 170/100 for most the time.

Currently taking 14 pills and Im feeling the side effects of the pills.

My feet hurt most the time.

Just feel like I'm in a no choice situation. So ashamed I have allowed myself to get into this shape. Being a former lifting coach and trainer for many years training youth. I just should have realized and been more self controlled. Its really sad one can allow this.

Really a no brainier for me.

Hi Daniel,

Welcome to TT. Only you can make that decision. I am hoping to have my surgery in September--I've jumped through most of the hoops, now just need to meet with the surgeon, get my insurance company's approval then get the surgery.

I've gone back and forth with this myself. For me, it's a life or death decision. My battle has been between weight and smoking. When I smoked I could lose weight. When I quit I gained. It never made me slim, but it was the tool I used to at least be able to get around relatively pain free. I can no longer use that tool and quit last year. The result was another 55 pounds and counting. It was a no-brainer for me. One of my best friends did it two years ago and she said if she had to do it again, she wouldn't hesitate to do it. She went from a size 22 to a size 6 in a year.

There is a lot of good info here. Get as informed as you can. Talk to people. Go to support meetings and the seminar. Then decide if it's right for you. Good luck on your journey.

My wife is undecided about the surgery for me. We lost are son three years ago and its been really hard on her. Im sure she worried about me now. I tell her I trying to avoid a certian heart attack. Im hoping the support groups will give me the insight whether this is right or not. Good friend is having this done in two months and and she is 62 yrs old. She been giving me info. She feels the seminar will be a big help for me. Im glad I found a place to read from folks who can be totally honest about everthing about this surgery. Dont think Lap band will do it for me. Gastric seems to fit my lifestyle.

Many of us feel the same way. But we are looking at doing something about it and that is what counts.

You should get your wife to join the site and read peoples stories and what the veterans have to say.
What you have to do is ask yourself will I die if I do not have the surgery? My dad and husband were very scared, but talking about and realizing the risks involved are normal for most surgeries. Good luck in your decision

I had a really good experience with gastric bypass. I was taking 12 meds and insulin to control BP, diabetes and other stuff. Now taking Nexium for stomach and baby aspirin. Probably be off Nexium after next md visit.

I am about 4 months post-op (April 21 surgery), have lost about 90 lbs (look for onederland story soon).

I have lost a lot of muscle tone and have not been to a gym yet. I never really exercised before, now I'm walking 3 miles a day.

I have a very supportive wife and she has been eating better and less to encourage me. She has lost over 20 lbs during this period.

There are a lot of concerns. Some people have complications large and small. You can read their experience on this forum.

While we all have different stories I believe the most important source of info is your doctor. His/her care both pre-op and post-op goes a long way in determining your level of success.

Good luck.

Default I'm committed

I am scared to death about my upcoming bypass surgery on August 15 but I absolutely know it is the best thing. My fiance is scared that I'll leave him. I think that's a natural feeling because this is going to be a massive change.

I have seen so many people have complete success with this procedure. The results are amazing.
