Default Newbe from Pennsylvania

I'm a newbe to ths forum. I had the RNY surgery Sept.29,2006. At first I was considered a full success and for the most part I was. Though after being out almost a year I was told I was unable to absorb foods or medicaions. I am now nearly 2 years old of this surgery as a thin as ever weighing only 114 pounds and still uable to absorb my food. I am now considered malnuroshed and am scared to death of my organs shutting down. Am now conciously trying to get the 60 grams of protein in a day to stay alive! I am scared to death. Eveything I do doesn't seem to put an ounce on my body and I'm 5 ft 4 inches tall. Of course I have akk all implants put into my mouth and am awaiting total reconsturctive surgery for my mouth so tha I can EAT anything. Very unsettling, very scared, anyone else in this mess would love to hear from you. I'm 58 years old and so afraid I'll die at 59 same as moth did. Tried all kinds or ptorein drinks and they make me ill. Crushing my food just to be able to get it down. Help out there? Would sure appreciate it it and soon. Thanks eveyrone!

Default My doctors views

My doctors want to put a G-tube (port) into my old stomach which I will not let them do as it would stick out of my chothing and be very uncomfortable to wear. I am therefoer conciously trying to geet more food in especially protein. It is difficult but so far it is working. I feel they do not tell their pateints about all the pit falls of this operation. I was very sick for many months after I had it performed. The gas pains are horrid and dont' disperse like a regular person's gas would so if you haven't had this surgry as yet or you know someone who is going to have it PLEASE tell them to do a lot of foot work on the inernet to find out about the awful gas pains they will get after it is done!

Good morning!

There is another gal here that I believe is having the same sort of problems. You could try to PM her. Her name is Page52. She is really sweet, and I'm sure she would be more than willing to share her story with you.

Have you had an endoscopy or an upper GI to see what's going on yet? Some times they can provide answers too.

Wish I had some advice for you, but at the moment all I can think of is to contact a digestive specialist in co-ordination with your surgeon and see what's going on in there.

Sorry this is so rough for you, but hang in there. You've come to the right place for support and understanding. There are a lot of great folks out here and lots of different experiences and outcomes. Keep your chin up and keep searching, there's got to be something that can be done.

Sharon

I have had every test known to man after I had my surgery so I know it is all perfect inside. I've tried to tell thiese doctor that it's nearly impossible to eat when you only have seven teeth left on the bottom of your mouth in the middle! Ugh. I have had 11 implants put in amd am now waiting for the teeth. My upper false teeth would no longer fit after the surgery so the implant idea was a better way to go but I ran into a lot of trouble with my regular dentist after they were put in as he couldn't handle the work that needed to be done so I was forced to find a cosmetic dentist. Thank God this man knows what he's doing and he has promised me a full set of teeth before the end of this year. I'm so glad though that I found this site as I've been to ther ones and very seldom received an help! Thanks for writing back so soon. Best life to you to now! Phyllis

Your case is rare, but it sounds like you need a reversal. Please go back to your surgeon and see about that. Or go to a different surgeon if you feel like this was a surgery error. Good luck to you.
