Default Another new story...

I have been reading this website and others and this is by far the best. You are all so concerned and supportive about each other. Do you all know each other from support groups or just from this website?

I haven’t written much because I am still waiting for my lap by pass surgery which is scheduled for July 14. I wanted to write my story.

Last year I made a decision to have the lap band inserted. About 3 weeks post-op the port got infected so I had to spend several days in the hospital and then have the port removed. About 3 months later I had a new port inserted. During this time I did not have the band filled but I still did pretty good at losing weight and lost about 38 lbs. Then it all stopped. I couldn’t believe that I wasn’t losing more weight after going through all this. I changed doctors and now go to Dr. Billy in Ventura, CA. He reviewed my situation and had me do a endoscopy and a fluoroscopy. He found that my band wasn’t in the right position and wasn’t restricting correctly. I either needed to remove the band or re-adjust it. We decided that since I had to have the surgery anyway and since the lap band has not worked so well it would be better for me to have the band removed and a gastric by-pass done at the same time. So here I am.

I have my pre-op class tomorrow night and surgery next month. I am so not looking forward to another surgery. I am afraid to get too hopeful – I do believe that this can be successful for me but because of all my previous problems I am afraid to get too excited. It really helps me to read your posts and I thank you for writing about your experiences.

Hi Ann,
Welcome to our little corner of the universe!
We know each other from here, and some from in-person support groups, and some from just getting together with other people in the same region. Don't be shy, you seem like you'll fit right in here! Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

Thanks for your responses. It really makes me feel part of this group and I know I will need the support. I go to my doctors for my pre-surgery class tonight. I hope they give us a shopping list of what to get to have ready. I work away from home all week and I am used to eating out for my meals. I think this will be a big challenge. Thanks again.
