Gina, my husband, whom I met on the internet -- ahem! -- in 1996, is a Texan. I'm from Pennsylvania. The heat in the summer is miserable, but the winters here are wonderful. It is colder in Dallas than here where I am, 4 hours south.
Getting used to it? I'm still not really used to it. I live here because it is my DH's family home, we live where he was born and grew up. Texas is very different than any place I have ever known (I've lived in five different states), it's another world from New York State.

BUT I live out in the country, not in my comfortable city girl environment, which Dallas would be if I lived there.
I like Houston a lot. I like Austin a lot. I also like New York State.
Incidentally, I have four pair of cowboy boots - red, navy, light blue, black. and I wear them all winter. Like all the other Texans!
