Default Im New....Say HI

Hey everyone!

My name is Sara, I am 35 yrs old. Type 2 Diabetic. I have had major things go wrong so please listen to me and help yourself if you can. I ignored my diabetes for many years. I have had heart ache because of it. I lost a full term baby in Oct 1992. I have lost 3 toes in 2005 and all my eyesight in my left eye all due to high blood sugars!!!!!@ Do yourself a favor and become best friends with your glucaumeter (sp). If you are a diabetic that is.

O.k.so I am overweight and have a BMI of at least 40+. Currently I have a private insurance that will pay for GBS, there are things that I have to do 1st though. 6 months diet and nutrition program and have a mental evalulation. HOWEVER I am getting Medicare starting in Aug. So I don't know how Medicare works really, if they pay for everything or what. I don't know if I should spend money I don't have on a nutrition program and mental evaul if Medicare will cover it?? Do they require it anyways? I'm confused lol.

Anyway I want to make friends here with people going through this same stuff. I just want to live a better healthier life. GBS will help me in that. I have a son graduating high school next year and I would like to be able to go to it in style! Oh ya and maybe a little less pain too.

PS I am in Washington state.

Sara

Welcome Sara:

My ex-husband was on Medicare and my BCBS. Medicare was the primary insurance which is billed first then your other insurance will be billed. We still had out of pocket expenses co-pays, deductibles etc. As far as will medicare pay for your pshy. evaluation I'm not sure on that. What I would do is call the local social security office and see if they can give you a number to call for information on covered benifits.

I don't know of anyone who didn't have to go through the evaluation. I think it's required by the insurance co. and maybe by the doctors (not sure).

I am sorry that you have paid physically and in other ways too with diabites and weight. Glad you are starting this journey. We're here to support you in any way we can. Best of luck as you move forward.

Sharon

What is BCBS? I kinda thought the insurance would be billed first then Medicare. But OK. Whichever is fine with me.

It is not that I dont want to do the Evaul, I want to save money where I can.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I'm sorry! Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan. They will bill your primary insurance first, with my ex Medicare was primary then BCBS. By the way, I had to pay for my psy. evaluation out of pocket as my insurnce wouldn't pay. I sure hope that medicare will take care of it for you. That would be nice. Keep plugging away, and eventually you'll get there!

I can't tell you anything about Medicare, but I do want to welcome you to the group!! You certainly have the right motivation... to get healthy and take care of your family.

You sound like a greta candidate for WLS and I wish you all the best.

When I went to my seminar, they said that Medicare will pay 100% of the surgery no questions asked! I'd go to a seminar and ask about that if I were you...especially if you're able to get it soon!

Welcome by the way!

Wait, are you sure it's not Medicaid? I thought Medicare was when you were 65 or so.
