Default Central or Latin America Gastric Bypass Surgery

Hi Everyone!

I just decided it's time for gastric bypass. I have no insurance, but I can still probably afford it. I've been to Costa Rica a couple of times and was considering having it done there. Does anyone know anything about surgery outside of the United States, not necessarily Costa Rica?

I would really appreciate some advice.

Wishing you all the best!

Hello & Welcome to TT.

I do believe that there are a couple of people on this forum that have had surgery out of the States with success.

not a big fan of "out of US surgeries" unless its places that have the same standards of care, (Canada, UK, Germany, Italy) I dont know about Costa Rica so i cant answer you there but really call around because if your going to pay a ton of $ and have to pay to travel outside the US you may have more trouble and more expense than just having it done right here

I was kind of thinking along the same lines - especially if I had complications after I was back home. Thank you for your advice.

but you know you can really find a good surgeon in your state and they have better prices for cash pay patients if i were to cash pay it would have been apx 18-25K which included the hospital stay, surgeon, anesthesia, meds, Of course it doesnt cover ANY complications or future complications thats the down side

Default more good advice

I think giving away your scale was brilliant. Those things are tyrants, bent on giving us unreasonable hopes and then dashing our self esteem to the ground.

I have never heard a reasonable answer to why you can have gained three or four pounds overnight when you are dieting! It's bizarre!

So, when I contact a surgeon and hospital I tell them I'll be paying cash and they will negotiate me a price? I live near Chicago.

Hope your scaleless day is happy!

yes i would check a few surgeons out call around to some Bariatric Clinics and ask to speak to thier billing or insurance person they usually will be able to give you a total price, they usually have that stuff written down in a file somewhere.

Yeah my scale = the devil although i have a pcp appt today and heck yeah i'm getting on his scale (i even put the lightest dress on i could find and i will be mad if the scale is NOT friendly)

That's so disappointing. And annoying. And discouraging.

But the big picture is different. In the big picture you're doing great! That's why you got rid of your scale, so you wouldn't have to be tortured by the up-down thing. Just keep taking care of yourself and don't let a number get you down!

Take this! pcp scale! And this!
