Welcome Cathrynliz to the TT forum.

My friend went to Mexico for a lapband surgery. She has had many complications and has had to go back to Mexico 2 times after the initial surgery. Yes Mexico is a wonderful place to vacation, but seems that she opted for an option that in the long run is not so great. I am an American citizen and had my surgery done here in Italy, they are very cautious and really take everything at a slower pace than anywhere I have read about. Waiting lists hear are 2 years out.

Having said that I am so pleased with my results and it has all happened in less than one year(gastric bypass, 2 plastic surgeries for abdominoplasty, and hip replacement which was done only after I had the prior surgeries), all for free. It is part of the Socialized medicine here in Italy, also paying privately for initial appointments with surgeons and doctors moved me through the system very quickly as it was 18 months ago I initially sought assistance.

Personally I think it is best to have the surgery close to home or where you can easily access support and the Dr./Surgeon you have the operation with. I do believe that you can find alternatives that are safe.

Good luck in your investigation.
