Default Hi everyone

Hello everyone my name is Caren and im here to find out lots about gastric surgery. Im 47 and have had food problems since i was about 19. Ive approached my doctor about a gastric bypass on the nhs and he has sent me for a blood test. Ive been tested for thyroid problems, liver problems, diabetes and electrolytes (whatever they are) Ive yet to lear the results. I would love to hear from people who have had the surgery and whether they are glad they went through it or whether they wish they had never bothered. Be great to hear from you whatever your situation.

Hi Caren

Welcome aboard! This is a great place to get lots of support and information.

I had lap RNY a year and a half ago now and I can quite honestly say it was the smartest decision I have ever made in my life. It wasn't the easiest by any means and still isn't. It doesn't resolve your food issues like a magic bullet but it does give you a tool to help 'reduce' those issues.

Even with some complications (nothing too major for me thank goodness) it was still worth it. I now have a long and healthy life to look forward to.

Please tell us a little about yourself and feel free to ask as many questions as you like.

Welcome again.

I'll be keeping my fingers and legs crossed for ya. I'll maybe even cross my toes if it'll help!

Good luck and keep us up to date on how it goes - it'll be worth the wait!

I have found out with Drs. when they send you for any tests at all, blood, x-rays, diagnostic test, you need to do the follow-uo and ask the doctor how were the test, were they normal and may I have a copy! Don't feel aggresive you need to be when it comes to your health. U have not had the surgery by the surgeon I was going to have was a Dr. Erik Dutson from UCLA they gave a sheet of all they wanted and I took off with it and got all specialty dr.s' to do the tests I needed. My PCP did the standard Lab work and other blood work that was requested and he also di the EKG but for this procedure they wanted a full heart stress test, so don't be alarmed, make sure you get copies for your file in case the surgeon that is doing yours loses his, if Doctors are from out of town like mine from UCLA ( I live in Oxnard, CA) they wanted everything faxed so I kept calling Dr.s offices to make sure they did their job! Good Luck and I am still looking for a surgeon, Maube you can help me.. I can't have the Lap Band. Gina

Yup - I'm afraid so. I hate my first beer in 18 months about two weeks ago and sheesh did I feel bad!

I used to looooooove beer but never ever again will I touch it.
