Default New to forum have ?' re: ins and drs

Hey everyton I am Jenn. I am in Vegas and Dr. Atkinson will be my surgeon. my cousin had GB 3 years ago and I have been watching her cheat her way through. I have a couple questions. I have just turned in all my paperwork, labs, diet all that for insurance. I am waiting on approval, pre op appt and surgery date. My questions are... Has anyone had Dr. Atkinson as a surgeon? Also have you used Cigna PPO? I have read through the threads and received some info on Cigna. But any new info would be appreciated.

Mmmmm, "cheat her way through?"

Please please please embrace this as a major change in how you live your life - it's impossible to be permanently successful and cheat your way through.

A s uggestion - get "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies." It will be such a great resource for you.

My very best wishes!

I have no intention of cheating. I have learned from her and her actions what NOT to do. It makes me crazy the way she lives. My main concerns are the process with the doctor and any insurance experiences with Cigna. Thanks for the info.

Hi there! I can't recall anyone on here off the top of my head who had your surgeon, but I know at obesityhelp.com there is a way to see ratings of your surgeon and get other info from local people. This is an amazing support board, but it is smaller than OH. Here is the link to the Nevada forums at OH: Nevada Weight Loss Forums – Obesity Help - Home
and I see on the first page someone is posting about Dr. Atkinson. I don't want you to leave us! I'm not saying that! Please come here and ask all the questions you need and get all the support we have to offer. I was just trying to find a way to answer your specific surgeon-related question. Someone may pop up here yet with all the info you need. Best of luck to you on your journey!

I have been on OH also. Thanks for the info. As I said my cousin had GB and Dr. Atkinson was her surgeon. She had a different insurance though. I know he is great and have met him several times. My cousin did not have to do any preop diet at all so I was windering if anyone who used Atkinson had. I ead about everyone's miserable 4 weeks of liquids preop and wonder. Also with Cigna there are so many different outcomes. I like this forum best. People are active here. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Oh good, I'm glad you knew about that. I definitely like to have all the resources possible, but I agree, this Forum is great. After I found it, I spent almost no time at all at OH. It's just too big, and this one is just active enough for me since I can't always get on every day.

I have Kaiser, so that's the only insurance I know. But just for your reference, I did not have to do any pre-op liquid diet except the day before. At my Kaiser we have to lose 10% of our body weight to qualify so that serves as enough of a diet to shrink our livers to prepare for surgery.

Best of luck in finding out what you need to know!

I have done all the things needed for my approval short of actually getting it. My cousin did not have to do the liquid diet pre op nor has the doctor mentioned it in the 3 seminars I have been to. It took me 3 years to decide to do this. I am also worried about the Magnesium Citrate. It makes me vomit like crazy. So I guess we will have to find alternatives. I like this forum. I will use OH to maybe find some locals but it is not very busy. This will be my main forum though. I have found so much info in the last couple days. Thanks everyone!!

As another point of reference.. I was not required to drink that vile stuff.. are you sure your surgeon will require it?

If so, make sure they know the negative reaction you get from it, so they can do something else. Perhaps an enema would work better for you? (I didn't require that either, but it's a thought?)
