Hello to everyone. I am new to this. I finally received approval from my insurance company and I have a surgical date of May 20. I am nervous and excited. I have to go on a liquid diet for the next 2 weeks. Did anyone else have to do this? I am worried about being able to keep up with my energy. I have 4 children and they all keep me quite busy.
Does anyone have any last minute advice?
Thanks,
Michele

Hello Michelle!

Congratulations on your approval!! Luckily (for me) I did not have to do the liquid diet. I am doing the 5 day pouch test this week, so I had a liquid diet on Monday and Tuesday. It was hard at first, but it got easier the second day. I know it will be difficult at times, but hang in there... you are changing your life!

Welcome to the forum and best wishes! Check in often and let us know how you are doing.

Default Welcome and Congrats!

How excited are you!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Your energy level will be fine during the liquid diet. Especially if you have to drink protein shakes and taking your vitamins. You'll be getting nutrients you need. I cared for my 3 kids and took a youth trip with about 15 young kids and teens from church while I was on the pre-op liquid diet!

You'll do great! Again, Congratulations!!!!!

I had to go on a regular strict diet. Had to loose 10-15lbs in two weeks. Mostly I drank protein drinks. No problem with the energy with the protein. My Dr. said that it is easier to see everything he needs to inside if weight is lost just before surgery as your liver etc shrinks for more room to work. It is all worth it.

Thanks everyone for welcoming me. I am so thankful to have this site to go to for all the information. I have found more answers to my questions than I ever expected. It is also so nice to have other people to talk to who have been through the same things that I am going through.

Hi Michele, and welcome to Thinner Times. Congrats on your approval!

We have a bit in common with each other. We are going to the same group of doctors. I saw that you have Dr. Ramanathan. I have Dr. Eid, also at Magee. My surgery is also this month, on May 29th. And like you, I'm also really nervous about the pre-op liquid diet. I'm not busy with kids like you...I only have 1, and he is a teenager and pretty much self-reliant most of the time. But I'm worried about getting through my work days, and having enough energy to not fall asleep at my desk. Believe me, I eat plenty now, and I still nod off from time to time over my keyboard, lol.

I really don't have much advice about the pre-op diet, because I haven't done it myself yet. Are you allowed to have protein shakes or not?

Since you have a large family to take care of, it might be a good idea to start cooking and freezing some meals, so you won't have to deal with it when you get home from the hospital. Things like chili, meatloaf, casseroles, etc freeze well. Starting recently, when I cook dinner, I've been starting to cook a double recipe and I'm freezing half. This way it doesn't take any extra time, and I'm getting my freezer stocked up with ready to eat meals for my husband and son.
