Default Advice ....

If one asks for advice then you really should not complain about the answers, CAPS or not. Zen was empathizing certain points.

That being said, WLS for Dummies is a very good book. It includes how and why to make this choice.

Oh, I also wanted to address your question. I feel for you. I don't think it's any easier to consider having 60 pounds to lose than it is to consider 150. Being stuck between thin and " too skinny for surgery" is kind of like no mans land. I know of many people who gained up to the "right" BMI for surgery, although I can't say I'd recommend it, at least not out loud.

You're in a difficult spot...the constant gaining and losing is so unhealthy. My advice would be, just let it all hang out. Do your best to make good food choices, but don't diet at all. Nature will take over. Either the better choices will thin you out, or your BMI will reach a point that you qualify. I'm sure many people would disagree with me, but I'm just trying to be realistic. If you felt like you could just lose it, you wouldn't be considering surgery. Good luck to you. REALLY. (Just had to throw some caps in there for ya)

I second the opinion about this book. Don't let the title fool you, or offend you. It's a good book, written in layman's terms, and is really a good overall book about weight loss surgery, the before, the after, what to expect, etc. It's available on Amazon.com, etc.

You said you have 60 lbs to lose. I lost 59 lbs lbs doing Weight Watchers. I kept it off for quite a bit...until I completely stopped following the program. Totally my own fault, as it's really a fairly easy program to follow (for me anyway), and I was never hungry.

Most of us who are having this surgery have to go through a 6 month period before the surgery where we go to the surgeon's office every month. In my case, I am following a pre-op diet, I am seeing an exercise physiologist, I am seeing a behaviorist, I have seen the surgeon, dietician on several occasions, and even a psychiatrist. Believe me, after all of that, you start to understand some of the reasons why you overeat, even if you don't have the capability of controlling it yet. I have learned that my hunger is not always in my stomach, it is more often in my head.

I urge you to speak to your physician about your concerns, and let him/her know how frustrated you are with your weight. Whatever your choice, I wish you the best.

Thanks so much for your time and empathy for my dilema. I have since been doing much research and will continue to do so.

I am ordering the book WLS for dummies. I think it will be quite approriate in my case. Cheers from Costa Rica. Colin.

I have a suggestiion....

An appointment or two with a nutritionist. I honestly didn't realize all I could eat that was delicious, and how I could focus differently, lose weight, and not feel deprived. I lost 17 lbs before my surgery, just from following the nutritionist's suggestions and advice.

Exercise is a biggie for sure. I always hated exercise, now I am a total exercise junkie, and it's all easy and fun stuff.

Zen is a passionate and loving person - she was giving you her points with emphasis and full attention. She is the furthest thing from cruel.

Best regards,
