Hello everyone
I had my gastric bypass surgery last Wednesday and I am struggling through the stage 2 diet. Trying to boost my fluid and protein intake, walking and just trying to get to the next stage is where I am at right now. How I got here is by failing over the long haul on all my diets, having sleep apnea and hypertension and having a bmi of 45. I am hopeful that soon these problems will be behind me and that I can learn from others on this forum on how to succeed this time. I am 57 years old, a family physician working for the VA, married with 2 adult children and 1 teenager. Wish me luck with these first few weeks.

Hang in there Art - the first couple of weeks are a little rough but trust me - it does get better.
I found it helpful to keep a daily log of how I was feeling both physically and emotionally.
I was 52 when I had surgery and it was the best decision of my life. Just keep looking forward and take each day as it comes.
How are you doing on your liquids and protein?

Welcome to TT forum Art. Good to have another guy come on the site, not too many of us here. However that being said the woman here are wonderful, supportive and wise, of coarse as are us guys.
Congratulations on starting a wonderful new chapter of your life. I have can relate to the dieting as well as getting used to the new eating after the initial Gastric Bypass operation. Honestly part of this new journey teaches us patience, more so than most have known before, which I dont think is so terrible. I would say take in the water and prescribed foods that you can for now, and keep trying to stay within the suggested eating choices these first 3-6 weeks, it'll start changing soon.
Wishing a great journey forward Art and dont hesitate being specific about anything you may want to ask or have concern about.

Hi Art, welcome to the group at TT. I can't give any advise because I haven't had my surgery yet. I still have a couple hoops to jump thru, but I am getting there. Everybody says to take things easy and one day at a time, and you will make it.
Good group of people here, and a lot of info. Any questions you may have, just read the threads or just throw it out there and you will get an answer.
I wish you well on your journey. Stay in touch.

Thanks
Thanks for the kind words and thoughts. I believe I kind of pushed it with activities yesterday and was feeling alone with the struggle Reading your comments has inspired to make today a new day with a better appreciation of what support can mean.

you CAN do this. And you already know from your education that the protein and fluids is a MUST. And do not overdo it. That as you know will land you right back in the hospital. There are times when discouragement comes, but you will learn that in time the little things you thought were so huge really were just pebbles and that you will soon be a new you loving life like never before Good for you for taking the inititive on getting healthy perhaps you will inspire some of your own patients Welcome to the TT
