Wink Hello everyone

Hi, I am going to have my surgery in Oct. 2008. I have a question for all...
I work as a respiratory therapist at a children's hospital...on my feet for 12 hours and I sometimes have to fight and hold down children to give them their meds. My doctor is said that I can go back to work in 3 weeks...Can you tell me how you felt at 3-4 weeks post-op...were you weak? Do you think that I should return to work at this time or take more time off? Thanks to all.

I went back to work the next week and was fine, BUT, I work with computer software so.....not wrestling munchkins. I think what you will find as you go through this journey is that if you listen carefully, your body will tell you what is ok and what isn't. The day after surgery you may think "piece of cake" and then the next day you may be more sore and tired.

Just try to tune in to your body signals - it'll let you know.

I went back to work once I got out of the hospital but I had a desk job and could get up and go home if I felt bad. For me at around 3-4 weeks out I felt the worst. My energy was really low and I was on pureed food. I personally would wait longer if I had to be on my feet for 12 hours.

I work at a desk job but I go up and down stairs maybe 10 times a day... I don't spend the day up and about like you do and I surely hope the doc will give me at least 4 weeks!

This is still major surgery eventhough it is done in a non-invasive way... I want to give my body the best chance to heal properly and adjust to this major change in nutrition.

I waited 6 weeks, but could have gone back sooner. I really wanted to make sure I was able to get in my proteins, liquids, and begin new foods without possibly getting sick at work. By week three I was getting BORED! But I don't think I was up yet to working 12 hours shifts, much less being on my feet all day. But we each do what we have to do! I'd play it by ear...most doctors will give you 6 weeks disability with this surgery.
