Probably a really good idea to throw out that darn scale- I do seem to be quite obsessed with it!! I was before though too!!
OK- On another point.... I had no idea how hard this first week actually is!!! It is a total learning curve. I discovered today that you have to force yourself to eat even if you dont think you are hungry!! I went about 4 hrs between meals and ended up feeling VERY sick and dry heaved for about 15 mins!! TERRIBLE!!! I also discovered that a cracker can save me from this state! There was a package of crackers on the counter and I took one and tried to see if that would help. I was surpirsed that it did and even more surprised that I could eat it!! I hope this is not the begining of me 'testing the waters!!!'
I am still having cravings for the crappy food!! I didnt expect that- I am not sure where I thought they would go!! I saw a commercial on TV today for Big Macs and HOLY COW!! I really wanted one!! This really is going to be harder than I thought.
I am also feeling very tired and unmotivated to go anywhere- hope this passes soon! Am I normal???...LOL
Thanks everyone!
Caran

I can't say if you are "normal" since I really don't know you... but what you are experiencing IS normal! It's called head-hunger...it's a nasty joke on us obese peoples! You'll notice ALOT of food that first week... But it WILL get alot better, I promise.
Does your doctor allow crackers this early post-op? If so...okay...if not DON'T do it!!! I realize every doctor has a different protocol on what foods are or are not allowed...so forgive me if yours has okay this food already. The only reason I asked is because my doctor explained that she didn't want me to have anything that couldn't be pureed due to some foods having textures that can irritate the healing pouch and cause more inflammation/swelling while the pouch is trying to heal.

I'm 7 weeks post-op and can say you're getting great advice from everyone on this board.
The weight gain is from the IV fluids, it will drop off before you know it.
The food cravings hit me really hard. I even had a dream about 3 weeks after surgery of going through McDonald's drive-through ... I ordered 4 filet of fish sandwiches, sat in my truck in the parking lot, and crammed them into my mouth one by one. I woke up and just wanted to cry. A few weeks of this went on before it finally went away. Now I desire nothing, and have to force myself to sit and eat. Emotions can get really wacky. Just do your best to roll with it, know it's totally normal, and don't be afraid to ask for help when you feel overwhelmed!
Good luck to you!

Oh yea, and GODSBLESSEDME is sooooo right when she says to get off the scale! Girl, the weight is going to fall off so fast your head will spin ... getting on the scale everyday and stressing over what it says isn't going to help you one bit. If I owned a scale I know I would be on it 10 times a day. But I don't, so I just let my surgeon weigh me in on my regular visits and jump up and down with joy when my jeans are too big to wear anymore!
By the way ... I went into surgery a size 26, and am now a size 20 ... so see ... who needs a scale?!

this brings up more questions for me....(I'm a list maker, a planner, I have to know all the details before I do something)
I'm what, less than a month out and I'm starting to stress with the LISTS of stuff to remember......*breathe*
I do have a question...
chewable flinstone vitamins.....can you do the gummy ones? They shouldnt stain, should they?
No one mentions the B12 sublingually.....well, not much anyway....do y'all take that? And if so, where to you get it?
heart burn...can you do say mylanta post surgery? or Zantac, crushed??

it's a no no on the gummies. childrens chewables are fine, just take 2.
and you should wait until your nutritional class next week. Linda does a great job of going over the recommended vitamins and why you need them/how much/what kind to take

No Gummies!!
Just remember ... the new hole from your pouch to your small intestine is about the size of a dime. A gummy could get stuck. Then you'd really be in a world of hurt. You really need to be careful of things like that ...
