Cool New to everything!

Hi everyone

I'm new to TT, but also completely new to all the information out there related to Gastric Bypass, and Gastric Band surgery. I came here...hoping to find out what's in store for a girl like me beginning her own journey to a happier, healthier life.

A bit about me~
I'm 20 years old, and a college student studying to become a Veterinarian. I come from a BIG family if you get my drift. So I can honestly say I don't know what it's like to be thin. I began thinking about having surgery my Senior year in high school after my mother had a Gastric Bypass performed on her. It's been 5 years since she's had it done, and I've never seen her so happy in my entire life.

At that time I decided I would take the hard road and try to do it on my own, but now reaching the end of my college career, and starting my 20s I'm still the same old me...and then some.

I'm praying and hoping that this surgery can be the tool that I need to lose the weight, avoid diabetes, and regain control of my life. I've taken the first step and made an appointment with a physician in my area and ready to find out if I can make this happen. The big thing that scares me is that my insurance won't cover it. At this point though...gathering information seems to be the best bet.

I'm excited to learn more about these procedures and hopefully have this performed before the new semester starts again the fall. Thanks for reading, and it's lovely to meet everyone here~

Hello and Welcome Dybbuk, the gastric surgery can certainly give you what your looking for as far as being happier and healthier. What a great example you have in your own Mom, who you say is the happiest you have seen her in your life. Well that alone has to give you some great feelings.
Being a young person and just starting out, you are really giving yourself a wonderful and smart gift that can change the path you have already set out on in life for the better.
I too many times like you thought I could take on the obesity and deal with it in my own way.
This site is a great place to find support, acceptance, advice and new friends.
I wish you all the best on your fantastic journey ahead.

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! ^^ I hope to learn more about the Gastric Bypass, and the Gastric Band surgery. As of right now, I'm not completely sure what option would be the best for my current college lifestyle. As I'm sure you know college kids probably live the most unhealthy lifestyle.

@pebitped: Thank you so much, yes my mom has been a huge supporter of mine. Most of my family are still very concerned, and some of my friends are still very misinformed about the surgery. It means so much to have my mother here to tell me I'm doing the right thing.

As I've said, thank you everyone for wishing me well on my journy~ I hope to make new friends who can see me through, and hopefully i can do the same.
