I was wondering when people we alble to go back to work after Laproscopic GB? I have 2 jobs- one that I get to sit most of the day and one mostly on my feet. I am hoping I will feel OK to return after 1 week. What was everyone elses experience?

Default Oh please take more time!

I took one week off after my open RNY, but I work in an office. I also only took just a couple of days off after my open revision. Totally wiped out! Seriously, the job where your on your feet, I would take at least 2-3 weeks off or more! The office job, I would take at least 2 weeks or more as well. My goodness, your body hasn't recovered from the shock of surgery yet. You will be very tired. If you do go back and feel the need to go home - GO HOME! I'm stubborn and toughed it out for the most part but was it good for me? NO! I think that it will take you longer to actually feel good if you push it too hard to start. So IMO take at leat 2-3 weeks OR MORE if you can. Good luck.

Sharon

What Sharon said!

I was in a similar boat. I work a desk job so I went back after one week. I had no trouble, didn't even have issues working a full 8 hour day, but some people do. If you're working two jobs, that might be a little tough. You may want to go back to one first and see how that goes before attacking the other one. Good luck!

Yikes! I'm still pre-op, but my surgeon has told me he wants me off from a minimum of 2 to 4 weeks for a lap RNY. He said 2 weeks was the absolute minimum, and 4 weeks was what he recommended. I work a very sedentary desk job.

I work for the school district and was off for the summer when I had surgery. I KNOW I'd never be able to go back to work after a week. My body felt like it had been run over by a large truck, reversed and over once again! It took 3 weeks before I felt good enough to venture out to the store or to see friends. Take it easy on yourself and don't push yourself too much during the first few weeks.

Thanks everyone for your imput! I am quite worried about this situation actually. I go in for surgery tomorrow and found out today that the job I am working for the summer has training/ orientation shifts startiong tuesday!!! I am a 4th year nursing student and working in the hosp for the summer. She told me it is just classroom work and if I have to leave or lie down I could. I quess I will have to play it by ear. Wish me luck and keep me in your prayers tomorrow. I should be home sunday night and I will give you all an update!
Thansk again,
caran
