I wrote down what I ate for my 3 meals (includes snacks if you have them).

I know many keep track of water (fluids) and vitamins too.

I wrote down exercise for the day and on some days I wrote how I felt..ie: didn't want to eat, vomitted, not hungry - made myself eat, hungry all day, felt very emotional etc.

In the back of my book I kept a weight chart, measurements, b-12 shots, blood tests, doctors visits and visits with the dietician. I also kept protein levels of foods that I typically eat.

For each day I wrote down Breakfast. Lunch, Dinner items, quantity and then in the margin, wrote number of protein grams.

I did this for all foods for the day and then totaled all the protein for the day. If I was low, then I made a note to increase for the next day.

At the end of the month I wrote down all my measurements and weight, logged it on the last pages of my book and made any notes on goals for the next month.

I am a list person, anal at times, but I really appreciate looking back to see how much I have accomplished. I even wrote notes in my book on questions for the dietician and her responses to them.

Now I only log in weight and measurements once a month, blood work and any other "ah ha" moments that I want to remember. I treasure my book....and thinking of doing a small 8x8 scrapbook for each month in my journey and list some moments from each month...of course when I can find time to do this!

PS: dont forget to take measurements every month and to take pictures.

Lisa took the word right out of my mouth. I would also like to add that this is a personal journey you are documenting, so I would recommend actually buying a journal or a spiral notebook (whichever you prefer) at Target or Walmart and dating each page. This way everything is in order at all times, and you don;t have any loose papers that can get lost...

Good luck!

I'm still pre-op, and I just keep my food journal on the little books that my surgeon's office gives me. A notebook is a good idea too.

I started off being extremely detailed with my journal, but quickly found it overwhelming, and found that I skipped the journaling all together....not a good thing, since I needed to do it for insurance approval.

Now, I just write what I eat, the quantity, and the calories (I'll add protein grams to that after surgery). I do keep track of my water, but just with a tally mark at the bottom of each day's page...each mark equals 8 ounces. I keep track of my weight in a small pocket calendar.
