Thumbs up Hello

Hi
I would like to introduce myself and tell you a little about myself. My name is Linda and I live in Massachusetts.
I had a lap RNY on 2-4-08. Just days before my 45th birthday.
My highest weight was 242. Day of surgery 238. Today 212.
I am very glad I found this site. I have been reading the different post daily and wow is all I can say. I have learned so much. I have tried receipe's ,noted what meds not to take, learned that this too shall pass (1st week) and most of all I'm not alone!!!!
I didn't believe I would ever have this surgery. I didn't think I was that unhealthy (that big person in the mirror wasn't me, I would think)After a 2 year lapse in seeing my doctor for a physical. I went and got hit between the eyes with the news. I knew I had gain weight didn't really know how much but knew my breathing was getting worse, you know the shortness of breathe you get going up stairs or just walking around. The doctor came into the room after getting all my test results and said you need to go to Dr Mun at Faulkner Hospital and make an appointment for GastroBypass surgery. I was like shouldn'y I try Jenny Craig. I was told I didn't have time (note, family history and dangerous high blood pressure, cholestrol and sugar levels) I needed to get the weight off sooner rather than later. So within 3 weeks I had the surgery. It has been a whirlwind.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look foward to hearing from you
Linda

Wow, Linda.. three weeks! Barely time to catch your breath I would think!

BTW.. there are several of us mass people here on TT.. I've been spending all my free time* here on this forum reading past and present posts, learning as much as I can. Lots of good people here, it seems to me

Best of luck to you!

(*significant it is, as I'm still on med leave until tomorrow!)..

Welcome to the forum, Linda! Wow...a whirlwind is right! I was hit with the same kind of news before my surgery too. I had avoided my pcp like the plague only to find out as I was going through the physical for approval for the surgery, that I was diabetic, had high cholesterol and high blood pressure. It's quite a kick in the gut, isn't it? Sometimes that's what it takes though to make this step. You've done something wonderful for yourself. I personally look at this surgery as a miracle and the most wonderful gift I have ever given myself.

So glad to hear that all is going well for you. It isn't an easy journey physically or emotionally and you need to prepare yourself for those bumps and stumbles. Just know that there is a wealth of information here and many listening ears when you need someone. You aren't traveling this journey alone, we've all walked this road too.

Oh Linda, thanks. It's my pleasure. It truly is. This isn't an easy road but it helps so much to have someone else to hold your hand, to help you through those rough times, to kick you in the backside when you need it, to cry with you, rant with you and to celebrate those WOWs!

Being a support person for others on this journey really is a passion for me and a reality not only on here but also in my world at home. I LOVE leading my own support group and sharing this journey with so many wonderful people.

Just know you can call on me any time. I really don't mind getting emails or messages and offering whatever help and knowledge I can.

Default Welcome Welcome

Welcome Linda,
That is the quickest movement I have ever heard of for being able to be approved and have gastric bypass, congratulations, I see we are the same age. So now the new life has began and it is great that you have found the forum so you can receive additional support on your new journey.
I think you will find the forum to be a source of support, answers, a place you can express when you want, find some humor or share some, really I see it as being multifascited.
Are you starting to feel better health wise after the surgery, many times and for myself the diabetis was gone within a week or two.
Hope to keep hearing about your progress Linda.
All the best to you.

Hi everyone

It is great to read everyone's responses, thanks. All of my numbers healthwise have returned to normal. Doctor said no need for any medications now! What a great saying about the amusement rides because that is how I feel. my head/mind was so slow to catch up to my stomach. I would smell food and I would want to eat it.(still do but not as bad though) Swallowing water felt like shards of glass going down my throat.I can no longer drink milk (my favorite) but found Propel water (doesn't hurt at all) I wish I knew what to eat in the a.m. besides eggs and yogurt. Any suggestions or thoughts.I have been on the receipe site and poeple have written great receipes.
Is this where I always write my posts? I'm not the most knowledgeable person with a computer
