Default new to site

I just heard about this site at support group this past week. I am hoping to have RNY on April 3, 2008. I have completed all my prerequisites and I am waiting for insurance approval. I read some of the notes here and someone said you get an inner glow when you get close to surgery. I can really relate to that because it is how I feel. I have been in the process since Oct. 2007 and I am very ready to have surgery. I have some questions about the protein powders that hopefully you can help me with. It looks to me that the flavored powders have more calories, more sugar and less protein per scoop. How do I figure out what I should buy? The nutritionist gave me a list of how many grams of protein I should have and how often to have it but I would think calories should count too. If anyone can help, it will be very appreciated. thanks. Kristin

Don't stock up on stuff! First, you will be shocked by how little you can consume. And, things you think will taste good, they won't post surgery.

I don't know of anyone on here who has mentioned counting calories. If you eat only the protein you are supposed to, the calories take care of themselves. Your nutritionist should give you some guidelines for sugar counting. Just get something with as few as possible. I've been drinking Isopure Alpine Punch which is 20 ounces and has 40 g of protein. It is pretty good. I also tried Muscle Milk yesterday. It was an 8.5 ounce container and had 20 g of protein. It was one of the better shakes I have tasted. I also drink the New Whey vials, which are 3.1 ounces and have 42 g of protein. Those are my three favorite protein drinks. Check your GNC or Viamin Shoppe for these products.

For immediately post op, I would recommend you find some good tasting soup. Strain out the veges, meats, stuff, and drink the broth. You have to drink a lot of stuff and so many options are sweet that I found soup broth to be delicious. Regular canned broth tastes very salty, and I wouldn't recommend it.

Good luck with your surgery!

Good advice,as tastebudscan change afterwards, I wasgladI didn't overboard and buy alot of my protien drinks etc. I got to point I couldn't stand broth of any kind, sometimes the smell alone was enough. MyDHwas great he has patience. I did strain the vetgetables and that was alot better then plain broth.
