Default New here....

Hello,
I'm 7 weeks post-op, and not dealing well... I guess I should save my problems for one of the other threads instead of the introductory thread.. I'm 48, have over 100lbs to lose and still on medical leave.

(It's hard not to put all the 'stuff' that is bothering me out there all in one fell swoop!)

I am looking forward to reading even more of the links that were provided at the top of the newbie forum. Being only 7 weeks out and on a 5 week 'stall' is very disheartening and I need to hear from others that this is all on the realm of 'normal'.

When I called my doc (who is on vacation this week) the PA accused me of spending my days eating ice cream.. as IF I could, even if I wanted for for heaven sake.. I can't even get all the food I'm supposed to eat into me, yet!

This seems like a good place to be. Thanks for listening.

I realize that stalls can be normal...but if you're only 7 weeks out and have stalled in weight loss for 5 weeks. Just doesn't sound right. Are you getting in all of your protein? How about other liquids? And what are you able to eat and/or drink?

Sounds as if your doctors office isn't helping any... Post more about your food and liquid intake and maybe we can figure what's going on.

Keep the faith...this surgery does work!!!

The PA's probably a little skinny thing too, right?

Just keep your chin up, and welcome...this is a great place for support and information, just keep following those pouch rules: plenty of fluids, and plenty of protein. Exercise if you can, and try to keep a positive attitude. Keep on truckin'--something will happen soon, I'm sure!

Good Luck!

-Mike

I didn't think it sounded right either, but the PA kept insisting if I wasn't eating ice cream, I would lose 'eventually'.

My daily diet consists of the following (as an example):

One egg
later a half banana or small orange
chicken thigh 2 ounces
50% low fat cheddar- 2 ounces
ground chicken- 2 ounces with tablespoon of low-fat, low sugar tomato sauce
cooked till their dead green beans or broccoli, or some other non-starch veggie

(that's about the max for food.. often it is less and my doctor has me focusing more on protein first)

For liquids, I usually drink approx. four 12 ounce cups of herbal tea (warm liquids are usually tolerated better than cold)
plus another 20 ounce bottle of water, if I can, though I often find I fall asleep and don't get all my liquid in.

It's depressing to check the scale and not see a loss after 5 weeks.. today it was up 2lbs and I thought What the H?? Hard to keep the faith that this was the right thing to do.

Remember this is just MY opinion!!!

But I'd focus more on protein if you're not able to eat much. Are you drinking any protein supplements? Doesn't seem like your eating much in general (but maybe I'm just a pig...) so your body may be going into starvation mode...and is keeping EVERYTHING you feed it in reserves.

Here's a sample of my meals (but I try to change my food options often...except for the protein supplements!) ~

7 AM Protein Shake
10 AM Yoghurt and Lite String Cheese
1:30 PM Chicken 4 oz w/mayo/ketchup with green beans
4 PM Protein Shake
7 PM Spring Roll (2) and Salad (small! lettuce/cheese and dressing)
And 2 fudge or fruit pops (sugar free/fat free) in evenings

If you write a diary of ALL foods, drinks and any condiments show those to your doctor/nutritionist!!

Please try not to get discouraged and if you are following all the guidelines, MAKE your surgeon listen to you!!

Ummmmm have you TRIED ice cream? it is the ONE thing I cannot tolerate! has the PA heard of dumping syndrome? rat her out to the doc on your next visit! A plateau at this point is perfectly normal, sorry to say...you'll drop more, promise, your body is just adjusting to the loss.

That's what I told her.. 1) I didn't go through all of this just to sabotage everything and 2) I wasn't interested in finding out first hand what 'dumping' is all about. It was so annoying and frustrating to have her say this, because, seriously, if I were 'cheating' like that I wouldn't be wondering why I wasn't losing and I wouldn't be calling.

I spoke with the nutritionist, she says I'm not eating enough nor am I drinking enough and the dizziness might be related to being somewhat dehydrated and she is telling me to eat more and drink more.

That, to me, is scary considering I'm gaining weight with the little I am eating but she insists I have to do both.

To this end, I have added hourly times frames in my log and have my stupid alarm set for every 1/2 hour to try to ensure I either eat or drink what I'm supposed to every 30 minutes.

I hope this works, because I keep seeing the results of so many others who are doing so well and look so much happier and I want that to be me.

i swear to you i posted a long reply to this now i cant find it
You are perfectly normal we all loose weight differently and your not alone on your stall periods i stall every other week or so. its frustrating but yes your body goes into starvation mode and holds onto every calorie it can BUT with some excersize those stalling points should get lesser and lesser. (i havnt excersized but i learned that from my doctor as well as one of my biology classes)
Dont be too discouraged you'll keep loosing but there are some rough points

oh yeah and you should be drinking a protein shake at least 60 grams of day. My personal favorite is Syntrax Nectar which mixes as powder but it tastes like juice I noticed that until i started doing 70g protein drink per day i wasnt loosing anything your body needs the protein in order to loose weight and i didnt read where you were drinking any protein

Thanks for the tip.. I did decide today to go back to basics like the early post op days (when I was actually losing! ), including adding the protein shakes back into my diet..

I've also worked very hard to get a lot more liquids in today as well and I have to admit I feel better today than I have in a while. First day I've not cried in a while. (I think some of that is from having found this group as well!)
