Talking Nana~ is here!

Greetings Everyone!
I am Nana~ I have the Lap band (since 2004)
I have had issues and I am currently going through the Ins Tango to get switched to the Bypass.
My Dr. thinks the RNY will be much better for me.
I am not saying I don't like the band it has been a great tool
I have lost just at 45 pounds but I have some issues.
I added some photos in the albums on my profile.

I found out this morning my INS is waiting for me to get a recent Phys. Evaluation and requested a letter from my Dr. (he already sent that in) and my Phys. Evaluation is on Monday.

I have Humana PPO and they have (or at least on my policy) a ‘One per lifetime” WLS clause. At first they didn’t deny me but the lady on the phone kept telling me getting the band remove “Could” be considered my ONE per lifetime…
I had UHC PPO when I got banded in 04

I (and my Dr.) explained to them I didn’t just change my mind and want the RNY instead. I have real issues going on here its either switch or go with out here.

Some of you I have seen over at the B2G forums! Long time no see!
Okies I’m going to go check out all the sections of the site!

Nana~

Welcome Nana.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had issues with the lap band. Would it be rude of me to ask for more detail?

I've had a RNY but regardless - I'm here to offer you support no matter what road you travel...hugs.

Honestly I’m not sure what the deal is.
I have .8 cc in my band, if my Dr. puts in 1cc I get completely closed off and I mean like not even saliva will pass.
And if he puts anymore than .8 I start to get really bad acid reflux and I can only have bland extremely watery foods. I mean like not even mash potatoes. Two occasions I have been to the ER when I started getting ill blood, and I was puking up at every meal I tried to eat.
I have been dealing with this for 3 years now finally I told my Dr. something has to give I’m not going to have my kids thinking its okay or healthy to puke after meals.
He doesn’t know exactly what the deal is I have had 3 Barium swallows (sp?) and an endoscope (sp?) empty everything looks “Text book perfect” he says, there is no stretching or slips I haven’t over ate and damaged anything. But as soon as he adds saline my body goes nuts!
I watched that funky stuff they make you drink for the Barium swallow bounce up and down for 15 solid minutes! It actually did pass through my band then bam it reversed and went all the way back to my throat for 15min.! yuck!
I have a photo on my endo in my photo album, it doesn’t look like much hehe looks like a pink flower to me

I have read in places that some people just can’t handle the band and unfortunately I think I’m one of them. I am very nervous about the switch but I’m even more nervous about losing my band and regaining all the weight!
