Default Glad I found this site!

Hi everyone,
My name is Kathy and I am so glad to have found this site. My surgery is set for March 10 and I am so excited. I am having the gastric bypass. I have a question out there pertaining to the surgery. My docter wrote out a perscription for nausea that I am to take called EMEND before the surgery. Now I am concerned because this will be my 5th sergery and have never experienced nausea before. This perscription cost 323.00 for 3 pills. My insurance does not cover of course. Do you think it is nessessay? Do people experience nausea more because of the surgery?
I hope someone out there can help.
Thanks so much
Kathy

Kathy,

They gave me anti-nausea medication immediately prior to the bypass surgery in my IV. I think it is just common practice to administer it as a precautionary measure. Have you spoken with your doctor about having him dispense it while you're in the hospital? Generally the insurance will pay for medications once you've been admitted. But I'm not 100% positive.

Either way...listen and do exactly what your surgeon recommends! Okay?

Cathy

PS~ Noticed your name is spelled incorrectly..."K" while it should be a "C"

WELCOME ABOARD!!!! You will love this site and all the support is has in store for you!! Congrats on your date and always remember we are here for you!!!
The anti nausea is customary due to the type of anesthesia they give you, so people react differently to different types of anesthesia. You will be thankful you got it if you end up having nasuea afterwards....I know i did.
Good luck and keep us posted!!

Counting the days you are Do to costs of that med,I sure would ask that Dr if he could give you something the day of surgery or why did he feel you need the med beforehand. I think I was just nervous but got a little upset that morning as I waited for them to take me in but afterwards no troubles til a few weeks later. But everyone is different as you will read. Excited for you be sure and keep us posted. It amazes me the cost of meds just get higher. Sad.
