UPDATE...Told the big B-O-S-S
Hi Everyone!
Let me first start off by saying that I wish that I could be on here more. :O( I peek in here and there from work when I can. They monitor our internet activity at my company and let’s face it; I need my job, ESPECIALLY since my insurance is paying for my surgery. I would also like to get online at night but with my 10 month old son, that is much easier said than done, and by the end of the night, I am ready for bed. :O( So please do not take it personal if I am popping in with questions and not responding to all of you. TRUST ME, I wish that I could be on here all day long. I just love all of you and the support!!
While I am on that matter is there a online meeting at all during the week nights? Just curious. As I belong to a new mommy club too and we have an online chat once a week.
Now on to more important things. I TOLD my boss! Yes I finally did it. Of course I got the "I do not think you have tried everything", "are you sure that you want to do this?", "My sister lost 80 pounds on diet alone", etc. I told her that this is why I did not want to tell her period but wanted to at least be honest with her. I probably told her more than what I needed to. I still am not all that comfortable with my work situation. She then asked me if I was going to tell my other male boss. So I sent him a simple email saying
..........
I am writing you a short e-mail to inform you of a surgery that I will be having within the next two and a half months. I have tossed and turned on this for a while and decided to inform both you and Sue with the details. I did not feel comfortable keeping the details of my surgery confidential, and am asking both of you to keep this private for the time being. I will be going in for gastric bypass surgery near the end of April or early May. This has not been an easy decision for me, and has taken several years, and plenty of doctors opinions for me to come to this decision. This decision is one that will be life changing for me and my family. While I prefer to not go into to much detail; this is being done for my health, and future. I should have an exact surgery date by March 25th. While I will tell other co-workers in time, I have not yet decided on how I am going to go about this, and prefer to wait until I am close to or after surgery. I will tell you that I am 100% confident with my decision, and also my surgeon. He is the head Medical Director for Columbia Saint Mary's and has had several thousand successful surgeries. I have my last three appointments before surgery on March 10, 11, and 25th. I did not mean to spring this on you, I just wanted to make sure that I had everything on my end in line before discussing this.
Of course he called me today. Saying that "HE WOULD TRY EVERYTHING BEFORE HAVING A IRREVERSIABLE SURGERY DONE." Then he said "Oh yeah you are 100% confident with your decision. I left it at that. I hate his snide comments! :O(
So while I am feeling a little better that my bosses know, I am a little ticked at his comments. I guess that he is one of those (yet again) who can really understand when his wife weighs a whole 110 pounds dripping wet. :O(
Thanks always for all the support! Love u all!!
P.S. Is there somewhere on here with instructions on how to post my pic and put in a ticker? I can not seem to get it to work no matter what I try!

Well done Shelly. I agree with you, I wish people would spend 2 minutes studying something before they comment on it. Oh, it drives me crazy.

Statement lacking empathy.
As I read through your post, I recalled my experience of telling a supervisor of a matter involving time that I would be using company paid insurance, being away from the office etc.... Then I saw the comments from both of your superiors and I thought they were very unthoughtful and company focused remarks. I dont want to be negative, however some people in this world look for opportunities to use information to benefit themselves to new levels of rank or looking like they are saving money for the company. I hope my being able to relate is just a rememberance of an unpleasant experience I had and that it has nothing to do with your superiors and the type of people they are.
Yes, stay positive and remember you are right to be upfront and honest.
Good luck with you upcoming appointments.

Well done Shelly...
It puzzles me how people can make remarks like that about something you have already told them that you have chewed over and over in your head before reaching the decision!
It will only make you stronger. Good for you!

im so glad you did it ! Just remember, you will have to always be on the defensive about the surgery. Considering your bosses remarks.. because they were JUST LIKE MY BOSSES remarks... i give you a lot of credit.
i had to sit in a conference room with mine, and defend my decision to her face.. without crying. it was very tough.
you will loveeeee seeing the looks on their faces when you come in looking HOTTTTTT.

I have to agree with the others that your bosses were out of line in questioning your decision. You were telling them your decision, not asking for their opinion, approval, or permission! Argh! People like that frustrate me!!
Sounds like you did great, though. No need to explain any more to them, just tell them when your date is and when you expect to be back. THe rest is none of their business.
Good job!!
