Default 5 Years Post Op

Hi, i am now 28 Years old. I has gastric bypass almost 6 years ago and lost 146lbs. I am now married and have had two children. I am here in search of some helps. I frequently get episodes of what i think is low blood sugar. i saw a doctor about it several years ago and they checked my heart and nothing else.. it has steadily gotten worse... about 1-2 hours after eating (only sometimes) i will start feeling very shaky, i cant concentrate, i feel like i am going to black out, i get very anxious and confused, very weak and extremely hungry.. it is the worst feeling in the world, the only way i can get it to calm down is to eat a piece or two of candy followed by some food of some sorts.. it lasts about 15-20 minutes. i have tried to follow a strict diet, i am always hungry but try to eat the right things, but these episodes keep happening.

One thought is that your anastamosis may have stretched out over time. That is the connection between the new pouch and the small intestine. I've heard of people having major dumping problems when it is stretched out. What happens is the food goes very quickly threw your pouch into your intestines causing a major rush into your system. People often complain of dizziness, lightheadedness, heart palpatations, etc. which are also symptoms of a low blood sugar. When you couple those symptoms with the fact that you say you are always hungry I just kind of wonder if that is your problem. The way it can be diagnosed is an EGD where they look at your pouch with a scope.

Just a thought

Going to see a doctor is the best suggestion. Another thought if there is nothing anatomically going on is are you eating enough protein and enough calories when you eat? I get that feeling if I don't take in enough calories. If I ate 2 scramble egg beaters I would be full enough bat that's only 60 calories. I usually carry around a protein bar for those episodes. Are you still eating 5-6 small meals a day? When you feel shaky, you should grab some nuts, cheese, or milk, something protein based instead of sugar/carb based. I'm almost 3 years out and if I don't eat enough (i'm very active and work out everyday), I can feel my blood sugar drop, even if I just ate 2 hrs ago. Hope you find out what's going on. Sue

Default the news...

i saw my surgeon last week.. they have diagnosed me with reactive hypoglycemia... i have to check my blood sugar levels when i have my episodes and keep a food log as well... worst case scenerio, if they cant find any type of food that causes these problems then my pancreas is to blame, and that means surgery..
and i am scheduled for an EGD....

Default Thanks for posting.

Jennifer besides the current concerns, you are inspiring to say the least. I hope that the Drs. will easily see where the problems lie and be able to help you resolve them quickly. I will look forward to hearing more from you as you are experiencing the life after lap gas. byps. and we need to know the variety of things that go on. Good luck and thanks again.
