Default first visit with surgeon tomorrow

Hi All,
My name is Sue, and I"m having my first visit at the Hospital tomorrow. I"m now weighing 301lbs, and these last 10yrs have found I'm not getting anywhere ever trying to diet. It just goes up and down. or rather down then back up up again.
I've done my research thoroughly and my only option has been to go private. My life savings. But hopefully it will be the best investment I shall ever make.
I am worried, but I have seen so many success stories, it has been such a positive influence. I'm not expecting things to happen over night and I know it will be a hard long route, but I KNOW I CAN NOT EVER BE THIS BIG AGAIN!!
I want my life back

best wishes to you all for the new Year

Hi Sue! Be sure to post again after you meet with the surgeon so we know how things are going for you!

I'm set for Feb 5th... meet the surgeon on Jan 15th... I'm hoping he doesn't take one look at me and say, "You're Hopeless Woman!" LOL! Nah... but irrational fears do seem to pop up!

Where is Bristol?

My best to you too!

katie

Hey there Sue! Good luck and Welcome. I am from the East Coast originally, and there is a Bristol, Conn and a Bristol, NH? Are you either of those???
Toony...you are far from hopeless. How could anyone refuse that face....Especially if you go in wearing those lips!

Thanks for your replies. I live in Bristol in the UK.
I had my first visit and it went well so far, the docs think I am a very good candidate for the operation. I had blood tests and heart rate monitored. If that all comes back successfully I'm on to a winner.
Next is a day visit to have a small camera put down to my stomach to check for ulcers etc. Once blood tests have come back I will make appointment for this.
I hope I am looking at a few weeks for my band to be placed.

I am still very positive and so now is my partner, he came with me, he was a bit sceptical at first, and initially belives in healthy eating and excercise, but he realises it's the best option for me now.

I really appreciate the support and knowledge from this forum

Cin Cin Sue!
Welcome to TTF - the most wonderful and specialist site!
Always a tricky one, wishing to get introduced on the larger Forum. However, there is a United Kingdom sub-section for any local questions and support groups etc.
Did I understand that you are considering self-pay? Several of us have gone to Dr Bruno Dillemans in Bruges, Belgium because of the cost of private surgery in the UK. However, I see you already have visited your surgeon... Just in case there was a financial difference that could save you a few pounds (money, not weight!).
Looking forward to your posts!
Cheers!
Vim

Hi All
Thanks for your replies. I'm having my band put in at a Spire Healthcare hospital in Bristol. Not very far from me.
I'm going private, I don't have insurance, I want the band now not when the NHS decide they will fund it.
So I'm using my savings and scraping some from partner etc.
I have not told my work colleagues only a few close friends and family. I work in a large office and don't know what the re-action will be.
I have two kids 22, and 16 they are both behind me and so is partner, although at first he was a bit worried.
Will keep updated with progress,

Thanks all

Sue
