Default Looking for support, 4 week post op gbs

I am at a hurdle with what to eat. Already tired of protein shakes, Im struggling with getting enough water and protein on a schedule. I am beginning to journal my eating/drinking/vitamin routine, may help, but first two weeks were easier. Not sure if I am pushing to fast, eating to fast, or what but this last two weeks have expelled 5 times, mostly meat or more firm food. I have gone back to more applesauce consistancy. I seem to do ok with a poached egg, beans, but can anyone give advice on how to get 80 grams of protein of of two to three meals a day that are all soft foods?

I never got in the required protein for a very long time and I couldn't gag down protein shakes. It was at about 3 months out that I found Nectar protein and could take that and that helped a great deal.

Do what you can - get in the protein that you can and really focus on getting hydrated with all the fluids. It takes some time to adjust to the new way of eating, but it should get easier the farther out you get.

Nectar is great! it tastes good and it is getting in fluids at the same time. I drank a lot of that in the beginning. Make sure you chew chew chew. It has to be baby food consistency before you swallow it. Do the best you can the journal should help you out. Good Luck to you

Honestly, I would stay away from the meat for awhile maybe a couple more weeks!!!! And, just try other things protein will come soon enough!! make sure you just take your vit,,and get plenty of liquids or do chicken broth some has 4gm protein or cotttage cheese soomething besides meat for now, i really think that will help you!!! j,m,o

Hi,
For me... I am 4 weeks post-op. I can eat ground meet as long as it's finely chewed, Chili is great!, eggs (sometimes hurt), cream of wheat, cheese sticks (sometimes hurt), yogart, chicken (ground), green beens (finely chopped). Protien is a hard one for me. I can do the protien shakes but I just get tired of the same old thick drink. I've added banana, Blueberries, strawberries, cinimin all at seperate times. I'm just tired of it. I really like the profect vials but they are costly. I've also tried carnation instant breakfast but it has a higher level of sugar so I only use half and half protien drink.

Welcome...

Default Thank you

I would love to know more about the nectar thing, two of you mentioned that, and I agree I need to do away with the meat for now. I seem to do best with cottage cheese, and yesterday tried a cheese stick which was fine. I am happy to have found this site, I feel like Ill mess this all up somehow, and so unsure about everything. I got married a week before my surgery and my new husband is freaking out about the protein thing. I feel better hearing that others could not get in the protein either. I need to just find some other protein juices vs. chocolate and vanilla shakes which I am sick of. I eat two to three times a day 1/4 - 1/2 cup of food. Everyone in my house is just freaking that I am not eating enough, but it is so hard to eat anymore than that and also stay on my schedule for fluids and vitamins. Thanks all again.

sounds like your doing great! Your family must not have gone to the seminars, huh? your pouch can only hold about 4-6 oz of food, liquid at a sitting. Don't push yourself to eat too much, you will pay for it. Eat slow, chew alot, don't drink 30 min before or 30 after meals. drink,drink,drink..., and take your vitamins.
tell your family to try to understand. If they persist, invite them to a seminar.

I'd like to know about the nectar drinks too... Where do I get this?

I buy the Nectar at Vitamin Shoppe. It is costly but it really doesn't taste that bad. It's kind of like fruit juice. I do the fuzzy navel flavor.
