Hi everyone! I am completely new to this whole thing. Well, not the overweight thing! I just started looking into bariatric surgery after years of steadily gaining and never losing! I am attending a weight management seminar tonight. It is the required first step to begin the process of hopefully becoming the new me!
I have looked up as much information as I could and spoke with a friend who had the gastric bypass. I am hoping that I get the doctor's approval and have no issues with insurance. That is where my biggest worry is.
I am 5'6/250 so BMI is 40. Hope to get to know a few of you!

I am in the Houston area, near the Texas Medical Center. I attended the seminar last night and got the basics on LapBand and Gastric Bypass. I do not think the insurance will be an issue. I believe they require me to follow a three month supervised diet before surgery. I am concerned about my primary doctor. He has been my doctor for about 2 years, but in this time, he has not been concerned with my weight. He has just suggested following a low carolie diet and exercise. When I told him about looking into surgery, he said he believed in the procedure and knows it helps many people. Hopefully, he will give me the letter recommending surgery.
