Smile New Here

Hi Everyone -

A little about myself: I am 31 yrs. old, married with three children. I live in Upper Michigan. Last year I was diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri. My options were weight loss or a shunt in my brain. I opted for weight loss. I thought that I could do it on my own. Boy was I wrong. I have put on even more weight. I am 5'7" and 277 lbs. I have bcbs of MI, they require 12 months supervised diet. I don't have that. My surgeon is very confident that they will get the 12 months waived due to my condition. He just got another patient approved with the same diagnoses.

I have attended one educational class and just had a visit with my neurologist. My surgeon wants my neurologist to write a letter to the ins. co. but my neurologist wants to run more tests first. Tomorrow I am scheduled to have my psych eval. They want that completed before they ask for the waiver. I am not sure what to expect at this point. I don't want to get my hopes up. I might have to wait 12 months. I don't know if I have it in me. I feel my health slipping everyday.

Take Care,

Kim

Welcome to the board Kim. I suggest if your PCP has had past experience in getting a patient thru the process quicker than the required 12 months, then follow his lead. I wish you the best in your journey to a healthier future.

Hi Kim,
Welcome. It sounds like you are in capable hands for getting the approval in process. It's one step at a time, no matter how far you have to go. Best of luck to you. We're here for you. The search function is good when you have questions that may have been asked before...but I've never heard of the condition you have before.
