I'm getting my plastic surgery tomorrow. I will be getting an abdominoplasty and bilateral breast lift/reduction.
My surgeon strongly recommended that I wait until I was 18 months before I had any plastic surgery. I am presently close to 20 months post-op. Many surgeons want you 12-18 months post-op with a stabilized weight for about 2-3 months.
I picked my surgeon because he was a plastic surgeon that I knew from being a nurse in the hospital and I have great respect for his skills. So I can't help you a lot with this question but I do know that you will want to have one who is familiar with the complexities of plastic surgery after significant weight loss. You will want to do your research and then set up a consultation with the plastic surgeon. Come with a list of questions for him to help you decide if he/she is the surgeon for you.
Advice? Well if you are looking to have insurance help you cover any of the plastic surgery you will want to document every little rash, pain, etc. My insurance company wanted a 3 month record of rashes that didn't respond to conventional treatment. For my breast lift it was 6 months of documentation, so the earlier you start the better. Also investigate the criteria that your insurance company has in order to get any plastic surgery covered. That will help you know what you should be getting documented with your pcp and for how long.
Good luck. It takes time. I had my intitial consultation with my plastic surgeon back in April/May and it has taken this long to get everything in place with the insurance company.
