Default Can you drink ?

I know dinking is totaly counter productive to weight loss but I was wondering what the deal is with drinking Alcohol after the surgery ? I've never been a big drinker anyway but I 'm a fisherman and I have been known to socialy drink. I understand limited or no starches, sugar, etc. Will drinking cause dumping ?

Some do, some don't. I have done fine with it, but I get drunk quickly, then sober quickly. I personally don't do it often because of the empty calories......and the fact that I know lots of people who end up substituting it for food. So, yes I can have it......but I advise to tread carefully.

If you are talking beer, the carbonation may or may not hurt your tummy.

Default i drink socially

I do drink...I was very cautious in the beginning as I didn't know if it would make me dump or not. But I can now have a few drinks - I do get drunk quickly and sober quickly as others have mentioned. I have not tried beer but I have had wine coolers and other mixed drinks but no more then a couple!

I can drink margaritas just fine...and shots of Patron...that's all I've tried so far. Oh ya, I did wine once and it was fine too. I don't drink often either. I don't want the empty calories, the headache, or the habit. I have one of those personalities that gets addicted to stuff quick!!! I have to check myself before I wreck myself!!!

I'm not a big drinker but I've been known to be a "weekend warrior". Beer I can't drink cause the carbynation doesn't sit well for me. I've always been more of a mixed drink fan but in the beginning it would make me dump almost every time and so it never made a pleasant night out to say the least. I gradually developed a certain tolerance that now I know what I can and can't have. If you're concerned about calories I'd drink something like Rum and diet coke. It's better than juice mixed drinks-too much sugar. My husband jokes and says I'm a cheap date 1/2 a cheesburger and a couple drinks and I'm good to go. lol I get drunk fast and sober up quick too like the rest said. Funny I thought I was the only one. lol I'd say pretty much after the first year you expand with things you can suddenly take in that you would have gotten sick over in the early stages. I wouldn't rush the alcohol though.

Default Dumping

Thank you for the info, I recently had a lapband done, and find your responses so very helpfull. I tend to drink alot, but I dont get hooked. I havent had a drop for two weeks, thats how newby I am. I wanted to have some homemade wine, but not sure. I have heard some reference to dumping???? I am not sure what your are referring to when you say that, Is that something to look for, what triggers dumping?
Thanks.
Paul

Paul Dumping occures for people who have had gastric bypass, the sugar, and sometimes fat in stuff we put in our bodies makes us "dump" its not a pleasant experence but if you do it you sure make sure not to eat/drink what caused it in the 1st place its not fun
