Default Hi

Hi I'm new here. My insurance has approved my surgery. It is scheduled for October 22, 2007. I am having open RNY. Because my BMI is a little less than 40 the doctor wants me to maintain, not gain wait, but it is OK to loose if I want because insurance is approved. To me that is confusing. I feel kind of up in the air. I want to just loose, but, then I want to eat stuff that I'll "never get to eat again". My brain is working all kinds of silly ways. Do other people have the same stuff?

Definitely! I'm at my pre-op goal weight, or a few pounds below, so I can't risk gaining weight either. I've been very strict in my pre-op diet, and working out at the gym several times a week, but every now and then I find myself eating something "for the last time". Like, last weekend I had a huge sushi roll, and a few days before that I had a big taco salad with ranch dressing. Eventually, I know I'll be able to eat most of those foods again, just in very small amounts, but this process makes pre-op life and eating feel like it's coming to an end. I guess if I wanted to eat foods that I probably won't be able to ever eat again I should focus on sweets and sugar since those foods will actually make me sick to eat post-op. But during my pre-op dieting I scaled back on all sugary foods so that I kind of don't even crave them anymore. oh well!

Good luck to you in this process and welcome to the board!
