Default New Guy Here

Hi from Newport Beach, CA. I'm a 41 year old dad that is 4 days into his pre-op diet and hanging in there. My scheduled date is Sept. 24th. I currently weigh 275 lbs. on a 5' 9" frame which puts my BMI at 40, I hope to loose 110 lbs. I'm kind of freaked out and excited at the same time. My story is not much different thant many of the stories thatr I have read. My mom called me a husky kid and to make a long story endless I have pretty much battled my weight my whole life gaining and loosing huge amounts of weight many times. Funny thing happened a couple of years ago I blew my back out surfing and found out from a couple of MRI's that my lower back was a train wreck and I better think about loosing some weight, six months after that my primary care doc told me my blood pressure was through the roof and we need to get it under control "how about you loose some weight" oh and by the way your now boarderline diabetic "maybe you should really think about loosing some weight. All of that was a really great wake up call but did nothing to motivate me. What really made me think that there might be a problem is I tried to buy a new wet suit a couple months ago and I'm now big enough that I need to think about having one custom made (big bucks). When I was looking at a new board the local shaper told me for my weight and size I really needed to look at a 4" thick board to float me ! I walked away from that and thought to hell with surfing I'm not going to do it anymore I guess I'm just getting old. My 16 year old son was absolutely heart broken that I was giving up, my 15 year old daughter came crying to me telling me she didn't want me to have a heart attack and die, my beautiful wife told me she didn't want to watch me slowly kill myself any longer. Hopefully I'm not to late to turn it all around and thank god I have people who love me and support what I'm doing even though I have been a complete dumbass with my head in the sand for the past couple of years. SO this is long and rambeling.

Thanks for sharing your story & welcome. There is lots of wisdom & support here. Many elements of your story sound familiar--I'm sure to many (if not all) of us & I totally empathize with you.
Good luck with your surgery. It's just right around the corner.

Congratulations on your decision and welcome to our little forum family! Here's hoping that your only regret is that you didn't have the surgery done sooner!

Good luck on your journey!

Thumbs up

We've almost got the same story...except that I'm 100 pounds heavier and 5 years younger. Borderline everything, excruciating back pain--all to be alleviated hopefully with the weight loss. Having "fish" in your name did not go unnoticed either.

My surgery is also on the 24th.

Good luck, friend.
